The Yamaha gas cart that came with the home through the lifestyle preview visit has been surprisingly quiet. I can actually hold a conversation with the passenger. The Villages sales rep. said this is a "newer" cart. Last year when I rented from an owner in The Villages, the gas cart was older, and it was so loud it was hard to hold a conversation with my passenger.
So are the newer gas carts quieter than the older carts? Does electronic fuel injection make the newer carts quieter? This Yamaha cart has EFI.

We love our Yamaha 2013 EFI and have no problem with conversations and there is no "odor" from the gas engine.

We just bought a 2014 Yamaha gas golf cart and you can hold a conversation and there's no gas smell (as above poster said).
I was convinced I wanted an Electric cart but living south of 466 A made me go gas.

We just this week picked up our 2014 Yamaha EFI of which I was not 100% excited about due to the issues of gas carts being loud & smelly. I must admit this new cart is the opposite of my concerns. Yes it is louder than our electric club car which we will continue to own but seriously our new Yamaha is not a problem for myself or for any conversation with a passenger. Not noticing any odor while driving or when it is parked in our garage. Very happy with our purchase.

Talked to several owners that have older carts from late 80's all the way to ghe present. The 2007 carts called the g29 have a larger muffler that is a few db's quieter than the previous generation carts. As bad as my ears are i cant tell much of a difference though.
