I am tinkering with diet and statin meds and wanted to get a baseline cholesterol test to measure the effects. I am not due back to my doc for several months so will just do this on my own.
Does anyone have suggestions on where to go to have cholesterol blood screening (total and perhaps HDL) done at a reasonable charge? I realize most have this covered by insurance but perhaps some do this out of pocket. Just looking for ideas...
Thanks.

Simple google search using "free cholesterol screening"
Walgreens does offer, according to their website, a cholesterol total and HDL for $30, and a full panel for $35.
Cholesterol Testing | Health Tests | Pharmacy | Walgreens (http://www.walgreens.com/topic/health-tests/cholesterol-testing.jsp)
Winn Dixie does every 3 months free screenings

These are just some of the hits on google.
You do know your doc may be willing to order the test without seeing you at a regular lab and depending on your insurance may be substantially lower charge than Walgreen's

The machine they use at Walgreens is not accurate. I thought my numbers were getting better but when I did the Quest test again, my numbers really hadn't dropped.

just call your doctors office ask for a couple of scrips for the blood work, but ask that copies are also sent directly to you, this must be written on the script.
walk into Quest hand them the script, you'll get the results in the mail.
