Someone that has dreamed for many years of making The Villages their year 'round home has recently told me that he has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. He is receiving treatment but this is a very difficult, lonely, and frightening time for him.

I asked permission to share this much and he said yes. He said it is hard to read TOTV without tears, he misses The Villages so much.

So although I will not name him. I ask you to send your caring responses to him.

I did not have pancreatic cancer, but I did have such a severe case of pancreatitus that they gave me a 20% chance of survival. That was 24 years ago and I'm still here and about to make TV my home.

Best wishes for your friend!!

So sorry to hear about our friend on TOTV. Its such a sad situation to hear that our friends are so ill when they've been looking so forward to spending their time in our beautiful community. I've been through 3 of these same situations with friends on here and it breaks my heart to hear there is another who needs our prayers. I will put him on our prayer list with 2 other personal friends of mine who are very ill.

Thoughts and prayers for our special friend and I hope he will reach out to us if he is in need of any help from us.

Thank you, Thank You, Thank You for the post on TOTV (and leaving my name off). It took me a LOT longer to read TOTV because of the tears in the eyes.

It also took me 4 times as long to type a PM to xxxxxxxx thanking her and bring her up to date. Feel free to ask her to be forwarded the e-mail if you care.

. The bonding within TV is so great it is unreal. Also some people just seem to have a way to find out things.

I have no problem in sharing my name and other information I just did not want it posted in an open social media such as TOTV. The more help I can get the better I will be able to beat this.

Today I am feeling better than yesterday and even better than the day before and the day before that. I even did a few things around the house that I have been putting off.

Thanks again.

Hello Gracie

Just wanted to give my friends a little update on the health conditions. On Tuesday I had to go to the doctor for a formal checkup on how things were going. The doctor was pleased and said I looked a whole lot better than a month or so ago. Blood work was okay with one reading rather low and I have to drink more water to correct that.

The days seem to be getting a little better as things progress. Yesterday I went with my niece to look at bathroom tile and I did get a bit tired there were chairs to sit in so everything turned out okay. Right next to the hardware store the same owner / family has a good old fashion Amish style restaurant that is huge. I have eaten there hundreds of times but it has been some time since the last visit. I asked my niece if she wanted to go over for lunch and that took no arm twisting. We get there and the place is full and a nice long line waiting. We get in line and it is moving along nicely so I think it was about a 45 minute wait. I did have to sit in a chair for most of the wait.

I was amazed as over the past few months there is no way I can eat as much as a year or so ago. I had a nice shredded roast beef, real mashed potatoes and a nice salad. I finished off everything which was a total surprise to both me and my niece.

Well today it was time for some grocery shopping. Now here I have run into difficulty in the past by becoming very tired and almost ready to fall over. Three weeks ago I went to the same store and knew exactly what I wanted and half way down my very short list I was all out of breath and holding onto the cart for dear life. Today was a totally different story. I was able to walk around look at things and I was not tired at all. It was just like a normal day from months ago. It was not until I got home and had to make a few trips up and down the stairs that I got tired. I could see progress is being made.

On Thursday of this week I go back for another chemo treatment and that usually ends up in a step or two backwards. From the looks of things the steps forwards are out weighing the ones backwards and lets just hope it continues.

Hello Gracie

Here is another update Also thanks again
for reposting to that wonderful thread.
============
I went for a chemo treatment today and was delighted. For over the past 1.5
years I have been trying to lose weight with diet and exercise and lost over 100
pounds. Well That is where I wanted it quit but I kept losing. I ended up losing
about 10 pounds I did not want to.

I quit weighing myself at home when I was diagnosed. Well today they weigh every
one as they come in for chemo and I gained 4 pounds. I was very pleased. Problem
during vitals was that my blood pressure was low when seated and even lower when
standing. This is something the nurses are required to call the oncologist
about. Well the doctor was so concerned he came over from practice to check
things out. He too was pleased with the weight gain and decided to give me
another bag of saline for the low blood pressure caused by my dehydration.

I have a nurse that comes over to the house and hooks me up to home chemo and
she was surprised to see me driving my car. I have been deriving to the store
and things but having relatives drive me to chemo. Well today was the first
chemo drive and everything went without a hitch.

I just hope things continue and want to hear those famous words from the
doctor that you are how well enough to go to TV. I have no idea as to when I
will have tests to see how the actual cancer is doing.

Today in the mail I received a lovely note from one of the posters on this thread together with a packet of cards and stamps to send on to our dear TOTV friend who is sick.

There was also a personal note to me.

I felt I could not give out his address because this is a public forum, even in a PM.

But this dear soul circumvented that problem.

Dear friend for whom this thread was started. I wish you a peaceful and pain free Thanksgiving and hope there will be someone to fix a nice meal for you. I wish that we could all be there to just drop by and see if you needed any errands run and give you some hugs.

We are all sending love.

Hello Gracie

I want to thank you on the update to your prayer request thread. I wanted to send you a PM last evening and I had it all typed out but it was in the general section and not the PM so I deleted.

I really want to thank you for all you have done and I don't mind you giving out my home address in a PM as long as you know and have trust the person. You know a lot more people on TOTV than I do. I trust you 1000% in making a good decision as to who to give the info to.

Update on clinic visits this week. On Tuesday I went in for blood work and my numbers were up where they wanted the and down where they wanted them. Everyone was happy. They said there will be a change when they do the same sample on my Thursday chemo treatment.

On Thursday they were right and the numbers went down and up a bit but still better than before at chemo. No additional saline was needed and everything went well.

I am feeling a lot better but still get tired easily. I have no idea as to when if ever I get my leaves picked up with all the rain, drizzle and show we are about to get.

It is depressing as last year at this time I was on the road to TV for my 4 month stay.

Lots of prayers for your friend Gracie.. May he be surrounded by angels and white lite..
God Bless

Hello Gracie

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and with that meal items I sure you had a lot of fun cooking.

I spent the day over at my nieces along with other family members and we had a very nice dinner. The two things we had that were not on your very inclusive list were dinner rolls (Pillsbury crescent rolls) and yams (sweet potatoes) from a can with the sugar syrup.

It feels more like Christmas around here than Thanksgiving with all the snow on the ground and the cold weather. Supposed to rain next week so no need to shovel the snow.

Have a great day and stay warm as the temps have been a little on the cool side as of late. But I'll take 60 or 70' over the 20's.

Hello Gracie,

I was just typing an e-mail reply to Cyndy and I received a phone call from my doctor with the results of my latest CA19-9 blood test from last Thursday. The number came in at 160 and they were thrilled. It went from 1803 in Sept to 413 in late Nov to 160 now so it looks like the treatments are working. The magic number for CA19-9 is 0 - 37 and we are getting close. Although only an indicator the CA19-9 blood test is a very good indicator for the presents of pancreatic cancer.

Boy does that change the drab Ohio day for the better.

Hello Gracie

I just thought I would pass along my results from my last doctors visit. To say the doctors are ecstatic is an understatement. The CA19-9 cancer antigen number is at 78 down from 160 last month. people without cancer have a number between 0 - 37. Let's hope I can hit that range next visit.

The chemo seems to be working but I still get tired very easily. Also the few days after the treatment I seem to be more worn out from back when I first started. I asked the doctor about that and he said that is normal.

So all in all things are looking good except for the stinking Ohio weather. I am sick of the snow and that coming from a former snow skier is saying something. It is supposed to get into the 50's tomorrow and rain but with all the coverage we need a week of 50 to 60 degree temps to melt the crud.

Keeping the faith and hoping for the best.

Short Update

Hello Gracie

Jut a little update so you don't get worried. Last weeks chemo was put off for one week because of one blood number being .2 points from being accepted. That is not uncommon and the doctors decided that because of the way chemo compromises the immune system and all the colds and flu running around to move things back a week. I an still waiting for a firm date for the battery of tests and want to give you a full report then.

One can really tell how the chemo effects the body now compared to last year. The more you get the worse it is.

Hello Gracie
Well last week on Thursday I had my latest chemo treatment and it was basically uneventful. Things were good until about Friday afternoon when the nausea started to kick in. From there until I had the home chemo pump disconnected on Saturday I felt like I was run over by a train. Nothing major but just feeling like doing nothing and no motivation. I did a lot of resting on Saturday and then again on Sunday. Things fell in line and when I got up today I really felt good. I did have an oncology appointment today so that went on with no hitch. The doctor still remarked if it were not for the "Do" he would not even believe I was being treated. He is really pleased with my progress and I asked him about long term. He stated that I will have thins for life and it all depends on the severity. They are getting the CA19-9 numbers down from 1813 back in September to 78 last month. He already wants that blood test to be preformed on my next blood draw / chemo on March 20. Normal range for someone that does not have this type of cancer is 0 - 37. The doctor said just because I may get into that range it is not an all clear sign. It dose mean things are a lot better but still needs to be watched.

I asked him about going to Florida and we got into a discussion about that. He asked when did I go and I told him for 4 months starting December 1. He then just rolled his eyes. I do believe that if the blood numbers improve and a CAT scan comes out clean then he may give me 3 or 4 weeks. I think the decision about a CAT scan will be decided after the next blood work.

How screwed up is our health care system just get sick and you are in for a rude awakening. I have to give my self a shot in the thigh every night to thin the blood. Per the doctor this is better than the pills for someone with my conditions. Well last year I never had major prescription charges and the script was costing $10.00 co - pay. In January I go to get a script filled and the cost to me is $1,100. out of pocket. Today I get a refill and it is $975.00 for a 30 day supply. Who knows what it will be next time.

I received a phone call this evening and the person mentioned they were sitting on the lanai in shorts and a t-shirt. Temps were nice today and sunny. Here in Ohio we won't be seeing that for 2 1/2 to 3 months.

Take care and say hello to the entire family. Also you may want to pass this on to Cyndy and others of the posy.

Graciegirl... I am so sorry to hear of your friend's sickness... Praying for continued healing and restoration of his physical body, soul and spirit...
Father God, your Word says in Romans 8:11 - That is the same Spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead lives in us... then that same Spirit(the Holy Spirit) that raised Jesus from the dead shall, shall quicken our mortal bodies".
So, Father, I am praying YOUR Word as a prayer over this man. You and YOU alone truly know the plans and purposes that you have for his life. But, YOU said YOUR Word would not return unto you void!!! So, Father, in the Name of Jesus, we pray for this gentleman's body to be quickened... New life, miraculous healing for his spirit, soul and body. In Jesus Name.. AMEN!!!

So many of you sent him well wishes on this forum, and many sent cards and gifts over and over and I know it made his days easier.

John got to spend a long visit, several months, on his last trip here. He had dreamed to live here. He was full of hope and fought this disease until the end. We should all honor his memory by living here in this beautiful place and finding the joy that he dreamed about.

He was a good person, never marrying, watching out for his mom until her death and he was an absolute genius with computers. He was an Ohio guy and a talker and a people person, quick to smile and to find laughter.

Rest in Peace, Friend. I echo Cyndy's gratitude to all who sent him good wishes on this forum and to all who will remember him kindly.

Eternal Member is a sweet way to keep his goodness alive here with us, thank you Admin for that.

Another fun thing about being around John--he knew so much history of TOTV. He shared a lot of good stories about it.:blahblahblah:

So sorry to hear we lost our Virtual Geezer :'(

He will join the list of wonderful TOTV'ers that we will miss forever. Thank you admins for giving him the status of Eternal Member. I feel so sad today, he never got the opportunity to move here and enjoy the other things on his bucket list.

RIP John, you will be missed.

Praying for your friend and will continue to do so, may God shower His love and healing upon him at this difficult time. May he feel a supernatural peace during this time.

Sending prayers. God is merciful and good.
