View Full Version : My munchkin
My little havanesse who is 1+ years old will need an vaccination update when I arrive in Florida. I need recommendations and phone numbers for vet near 466A.
Also, I am starting early to look for someone who will love her and board her for a few weeks in January and February. She is well behaved, lovable and approx 13 lbs. I DO NOT want her in a kennel. She is sweet, tender and loves to cuddle.
Thanks for advice and recommendations.

Don't know how yet. When I have time (soon) in TV, I need to take Computer 101. She is a rescue that I was so lucky to find. Have had her for 4 months and we are attached at the hip. She is white with little tinges of cream on her ears and back. I hope, as she gets older, to have her be a comfort dog at the assisted living place and maybe the nursing home too. I had been dogless for 4 years....she makes me so-o happy.

Suzi, I can recommend my vet at Park Heights Animal Hospital on 441. I believe you take 466A to the end and turn right on 441. It is a couple miles on the right. Really not very far. The office is old but clean, and they are very good people. Both the vets there come highly recommended by people on this forum. We use Dr. Manganaro. I believe she was rec. to me by Kathie I. I have used their other vet for our Cockatiel, so it's a one-stop shopping place for me. More reasonable prices, I believe, than the new vet on 466A at Colony. That's probably because the rents are higher on properties located in TV.
You can do a search on this forum for pet sitters and vets and see what you think. I used to use Wendy Neff for pet sitting, but she is very ill now. I have another rec. of a person who sits in her home, but I'm on the road right now and don't have the info with me. She is out by the Ocala National Forest. We have been out there and used her for an overnight. very clean house, and we have a friend whose dog loves it out there. It's about a half hour or so away. If you're interested, PM me and I will dig out the info. we should be home mid-afternoon.

That is such a happy story. Dogs can really light up our life.
We use two Veterinary practices. I like to be registered at Buffalo Ridge because they have a 24 hour Emergency Service. I think of Buffalo Ridge as a "high tech" facility. I think they have three Vets now. They are located just off CR 466 across from The Villages Charter School. The office is new, it opened a few years ago, and I've heard lots of positive comments about it.
The other Vet we use is Dr. Tim Porter in Wildwood, close to CR 466A. He is more of an old-fashioned Vet without a lot of bells and whistles. We like him.
Please PM me if you have any questions, or want addresses and telephone numbers.

Love Park Heights. Dr. Valdez is the vet I recommend there. My bridge partner, a retired vet who's subbed at most of the vet offices around here, recommended him to me. Figure if he's the man a retired vet goes to, he's got to be pretty good.
For having someone keep your dog overnight, I recommend Yvonne Paradis (352/750-3761). She really puts the dogs first.

Yes, he is the one who takes care of our bird. We really like that office.

Does Dr. Valdez have an office in The Villages? I've heard nothing but positive comments about him.

I just googled Dr. Valdez and he has an office in Fruitland Park, and another on LaGrande Blvd. in Lady Lake.

We also love Dr. Porter and his vet techs are very skilled. We have used the other high tech office at Buffalo Ridge but the experienced vet techs and Dr. Porter beat the techs at the Buffalo Ridge in my opinion. Henry never had a problem giving samples for heartworm testing and other tests at Dr. Porter's office. It was like night and day. I was also able to see them take samples and Henry was never stressed by his visits there. For some reason there was always a problem at Buffalo Ridge. It is a nice building and the decor is nice.

The OP, Suzi, asked for vet recommendations close to 466A. I think that she should check out Park Heights, either Dr. Manganaro or Dr. Valdez, both of whom come highly recommended by many on here. Just be aware that it is an old-fashioned building, small waiting and examining rooms, but the vets are excellent and the staff is great. But it is very much closer to her location than any of the other recs.
If you want high tech and glossy, check out the vet at Colony in the brand-new facility. He's probably good too, just a little pricier. Some on here have reviewed this establishment when it was new and possibly workingo ut the kinks. You could do a search for it. Does anyone remember the name?

According to my bridge partner, he does not recommend the vets at the Lady Lake office, just Park Heights. (He is rather fussy when it comes to his pets. lol) While both are owned by Dr. Valdez, it really is one of those never the twain shall meet -- the vets and staff do not really interact with each other at these two locations.

I've been using Animal Care Center of Wildwood (352) 748-6348 for the last 2.5 years...great vet and staff. Also very reasonable... This vet diagnosed, treated and healed a skin condition my pooch had. Still can't believe it... I had spent thousands of dollars on specialists, tests, etc. and no cure. One told me she had a Thyroid problem, the other said it was allergies, etc. Turns out all it was an infection, and three weeks of antibiotics took care of it. Check them out...

That would probably be close to 466A too, although it's ripped up and closed to through traffic down that way. But there are ways around that.

We like Dr. Tim Porter, Animal Care Center in Wildwood. He diagnosed cancer in our cat after the Vet at a high tech office told us it was nothing to worry about. Our cat got sicker and sicker. We finally took her to Dr. Porter who performed surgery, and the cat recovered and was fine. Just be warned, the office is modest, not impressive.

I know that, Bare; I live just north of 466A. I made the comment due to the fact that you can't get through 466A from Pinellas Plaza over to 301, as the road is ripped up. Not sure how new Suzi is or if she knows the shortcuts to get around this.
At any rate, we have no shortage of good vets around, and once you know the lay of the land, it's really not far to gt to any of them.

Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital is great I go to DR. Jason, Baby is a rescue and one vet told us to get rid of her....she is the best dog and well behaved and loves little dogs and people and everyone...accept squirrels
:MOJE_whot:
Have noted all the vets and will check them out before I make an appointment. I'm not bothered by less-than-fancy offices. But I want a knowledgeable and trustful vet.
Now I need some names and phone numbers of truly loving dog sitters. I have big plans for my dog......she and I hope to be comfort volunteers as soon as she attends classes and gets a little older. I want her treated real well because someday she will be helping others. So please, send me names and numbers of those people who could care for our future volunteer dog.

Suzi,
I just opened one of those envelopes full of coupons, and in it there is an ad for Buffalo Ridge. It says they are opening an office in Pinellas Plaza "soon." Don't know who the vets are, but that certainly would be close.
