People always ask is there anything wrong with The Villages... WELL now there is.
If you are eligible for Medicare, we want you to know that the only Medicare Advantage plans The Villages Health participates in are those offered by UnitedHealthcare®. UnitedHealthcare® Insurance Company is the same Medicare insurance provider that many Villagers already rely on for AARP® Medicare Plans.
•Traditional Medicare
•UnitedHealthcare® The Villages® MedicareComplete® (HMO)
•AARP® MedicareComplete Choice® (Regional PPO)

I fail to see why The Villages Health Care and United Health Care add up to be "wrong with The Villages". It is something offered/available to Villagers, and I believe others in surrounding communities. If one does not want either or both there are many other choices available for medicare patients.
Maybe I am missing something. If I am please explain why it is wrong for The Villages.

VHS is just one option for your doctor needs. Many others to choose from. Find one that takes your insurance or switch insurance carriers. Doesn't seem like much to fret about in my opinion. Not sure why it has anything to do with "something wrong with the villages".

I agree with the OP. I recently switched to the new Village Health Centers because they took Preferred Care Partners. Had they told me at the time that they would be exclusive to United Health Care Medicare Advantage, I never would have made the switch. Fortunately, PCP let me switch back, and my previous primary care doctor agreed to take me back.
In addition to the exclusive deal the Health Centers have with UHC Medicare Advantage, they are also dropping many specialists, including my cardiologist.
As of now, I can choose one of several plans that will meet my needs, and the doctors I want. It would be nice to stay with The Villages Health Care, but not enough to subject myself to the whims of United Health Care.
I am generally supportive of the developer and what they have achieved here in TV. However, on this one I don't think they are considering the best interests of the residents.

What makes people think the developer has a an actual 'hand' in the daily matters of the health system. Yes it's a concept that they support but the actual workings are the work of the health system company (originally Doctor's of Belleview). I don't think Gary Morse said "United Health care or bust!"

The developer has nothing to do with the contracts for the Health Care Providers. This happens all over the country. I have worked in healthcare billing for over 35 years. Each year the insurance companies contract with the health care providers. If the insurance companies do not offer a fair rate, the healthcare provider does not have to contract with them. Insurance companies actually pay very little. If you take a close look at your explanation of benefits from your insurance carrier, you will notice the allowed amount and the paid amount. The difference between these amounts is written off by the healthcRe professional. The patient is only responsible for their copayment and/or deductible

Yes. Does anyone know where there is an authoritative explanation? As far as I know, the Daily Sun has only publised press releases about Florida's Healthiest Home Town, but hardly any details about who owns what and how the system operates.

Sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree. There is plenty wrong with The Villages. In spite of that, I think that it's the best place to live in the world. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else unless I was super wealthy and could have several homes.
The thing is that, the things that I see that are wrong here are not worth fretting about.
But to say that the Villages, or any other place for that matter is perfect is a bit of a fantasy. No one, no place, or no thing is perfect but this is as good as it gets and it's certainly good enough for me.

The bad part is UHC is dumping doctors that are not involved with The Villages health care organization

It might not be that they are "dumping" doctors, it more likely that the doctors are not agreeing to accept the UHC payment schedule.

So..... What about Florida Blue????
Forida Blue is a BC/BS plan that will be accepted at the Health Care Centers in TV in addition to Cigna, Humana PPO and UHC.
For a complete list of carriers go the The Villages Health | America's Healthiest Hometown (http://www.thevillageshealth.com)
I was just on the phone with Medicare and Florida Blue and UHC have a similar plans but as always, one must choose the plan that best fits their medical condition/s.

They're dumping the doctors - doctors are trying to negotiate their way back in.

As my father always said " believe nothing you read, and 1/2 of what you see"
To those that have AARP, I wish you luck.

I agree with your last point ... some people seem to ascribe almost mystical or supernatural power to "the Developer". Maybe that's a Halloween thing?

OK, I admit it's not perfect here. We have dog's pooping all over the place, grandchildren driving carts, carts going over 20 miles an hour, no Trader Joe's, people saving seats, walkers in the lap pools, no big arena for a bunch of big name has beens to perform. Place really sucks! What are we doing here?

Just had a minor surgery procedure done at The Villages Hospital.... All the paperwork was done and ready.... good outpatient service and RN's were in abundance in this area!
Glad I had Florida Blue and Medicare coverage!
Karron...
Thanks everyone for posting information for health coverage!

All these problems in The Villages can be summed up in one word;
Paramania -- definition is "finding joy in complaining"
