Gracie, the elephant carvings are huge, and across the street from the Dam Diner. The diner is small and north of Lake Weir. I think the town might be Ocklawaha (sp). They are the most curious thing we've seen since moving to Florida. And the diner gets its name from a dam directly north of it hence: Dam Diner.

I haven't seen them. Is it an Indian resturaunt? Elephant carving are good fortune in India. Also, beside a door they are guardians.

Gracie, The Dam Diner is about 4 miles northeast of Oklawaha on 464C. A great little country diner with lots of "unhealthy" food. Only open for breakfast and lunch except for Friday nights when they are also open for dinner. We enjoy the drive and the people we meet out there. The elephant carvings are across the highway from the diner. They are so cool!

Thank you for posting the sight and picture. Now if we could only find out the history behind them. They are something to see and worth the drive to see with your own eyes.

I have bicycled past the elephants fairly often for a number of years. I stopped in to inquire and was told the story by the caretaker of the property.
The elephants, and a lot of other furniture, carvings, and even a small house, were purchased in Thailand, disassembled, and shipped here by the former owner, now deceased. We were told his family owned an orange grove near the area and he inherited several million dollars which he used to enjoy life to the fullest in Thailand.
The amount of furniture and decorative carvings in the house, farther back in the property and along the Oklawaha river, are incredible.

Wow. Thanks for the info. I love history and seeing new things. These elephants have intrigued me for a couple of years.
Love the fact that you can find answers for questions (silly or not) on this website.
