View Full Version : Mezza Luna - Dinner Last Night

Mezza Luna will be opening soon. When they firm up an opening date, I'll try to remember to post it.
We went last night with friends for dinner. Right now they are doing a few nights with friends & family.
We had 6 of us and it was delicious !! We all ordered our own appetizers, soup or salad and meal.
For appetizers we had crab cake balls, stuffed mushrooms, calamari and coconut shrimp.
Then for our soup or salad choice we choose minestrone, pasta fagioli & ceasar salad.
For our meals, I had Penne Rosina (I asked for angel hair pasta instead, no problem), hubby had Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo (my favorite) others had Ravioli, Penne Arrabiata, Sirloin and a Shrimp dish.
The owners are all nice. It's very pretty inside. We looked at all the prices and they are very reasonable.
I think this will be a popular place. I love the bar and there are 5 TVs around the bar area.
Happy Hour is very good. 11:00 - 7:00. $5.00 martinis, $2.95 house wines and well drinks were either $2.25 or $2.50. I can't remember which.
Great bartenders that a lot of you will know. "Grandpa" Jeff, Fran and Darci. Not sure who else.

Is this in Brownwood or Colony? I know there are new Italian restaurants opening in both places.

Thanks!

Sounds great and I can't wait for them to open, although they will have a hard time beating the the quality of food that was served at CiCi's (only kidding).

Went there today. They were open just for lunch. I guess it's a soft opening. They didn't know when they would open full time. Plenty of staff around. Unfortunately my wife and I both ordered spaghetti and meatballs. It cost only $7.95. What I liked about it other than it tasted great was the fact that the portions were just right. Usually most restaurants give you too much but this was just the right size. That's basically all we had other than my wife had a glass of wine and I had a diet soda (designated driver). The sauce is home made and was very good. I think this place will be a keeper. We did order the spaghetti with angel hair but it was angel hair but that's just a small problem. My wife usually doesn't like italian meatballs but she liked these. They were very good.

Can't wait for some other comments.

Yes it is Sal who still owns Mezza Luna in Manalapan, NJ who has opened up a new Italian restaurant here in The Villages. Having moved from NJ to The Villages over two years ago I have tried all the Italian restaurants in our community in search of a good pizza. Nothing can come close to the quality and taste of what I grew up with until now.
I have enjoyed lunch at the new Mezza Luna twice this week. Beautifully decorated, comfortable seating, excellent friendly service from a well trained staff, reasonable prices and most importantly .... the fabulous Italian food. You will not be disappointed!!
Finally tasty pasta dishes, salads, sandwiches, soups, appetizers, PIZZA!!!!, calzones....all prepared under the supervision of the Imperiale family who have owned over 17 restaurants. They are currently open just for lunch. Enjoy!

Yes, someone else posted the website, however, Sal, one of the owners, said the menu here will not be as big as that one but it will give you an idea.

Since then I found that their website will be Mezzalunagrill.com (http://www.mezzalunagrill.com/), but currently the site is parked. (parked means temporary generic file(s) stored on their provider's server until Mezza Luna's files are ready for uploading) Once their web pages are ready to go and uploaded we'll hopefully have access to their menu. This could actually happen any day now. In the mean time you may want to bookmark the address for easier/quicker access later on!

I looked through the window 11/2/13 and the impression that I have if you are looking for a quiet place to have Lunch/Dinner this is not going to be your first choice. To me it looks like a very small version of Carrabbas located in Lady Lake, complete with a bar to the left rear. The tables are very close together with a few booths.

I wish them well, but. The food is really going to have to be Outstanding in order for them to get repeat customers. That folks is reality and the bottom line.

To me, it feels like many SF restaurants -- small, close quarters but still worth going to. The food is good. I think (hope) it will do okay here.

Had lunch there yesterday and can't wait to go back, again, today. SO GOOD!
Service was great....food was great, had a Philly cheese steak and a "REAL" pizza...I just never get too excited over flat breads as pizzas. So much on the menu I want to try. I expect it will be difficult to get in to this place in a few more days when the word gets out.

Love small, close quarter places like French bistros. Are the lights too dim? Hope not. Some darkness are preferred but don't care for restaurants with too dim lights to bring about so called atmosphere but too dark to know what we are eating. Cheers for a new cozy restaurant!

Had dinner there last night with a friend. The hostess indicated they're not officially open yet, but they have a limited menu. We had to wait close to 45 minutes for a table. The place was mobbed. Funny, but we were able to carry on a conversation quite well even with every table filled and standing room only at the bar. You probably won't need ear plugs.

I just came inside from one of our daily neighborhood street meetings. Two of our neighbors were raving the whole time about their meals at Mezza Luna. These fine Italian folks have eaten at Mezza Luna twice in the last two days. Their descriptions of the food was accompanied by lots of hand-waving so you know it was an authentic Italian review!

Went last night and sat at the bar. The place was full and it looked like everyone was having a good time and enjoying their meals.
They are not open for dinner yet. We ordered after they were done serving meals. You could get pizza, flatbreads and the pizza roll in the bar area.
We ordered a pepperoni pizza and a pizza roll.
The pizza is a little thinner than I usually like but I must say the flavor was very good and I really liked the crispy crust. We enjoyed it. The pizza roll is delicious and is served with a yummy marinara. Our pizza roll had cheese, pepperoni and sausage in it.
We ran into several people there that we know and we all had a nice time.

We had dinner there tonight. Went around 5 and there was no wait. I had chicken Marsala which was just OK - salty due to the prosciutto and a rather bland sauce. My husband had the chicken parmigiana and it was great. We will be back to try other things on the rather lengthy menu. Oh - Happy Hour from 11 - 6pm. $3 house wine and $2 drafts.

The couplee beside us had the chicken parm and the veal piccato and both enjoyed their meal and said they would be back too. The official opening is in 2 weeks according to one of the hostesses. We went early and it was getting busy by 6. Hope it does well. A good fit with the other restaurants in the plaza.

They are also very good people that care about the quality and service !

They don't have any set hours. They did serve a little longer tonight than they did a couple of nights ago. They want to make sure everything is running nice and smooth before they officially start serving dinner. They said there is no set date yet.

We had dinner at Mezza Luna last night and sat in the bar area at some high tables. We had drinks (very well done) but there was some kind of screwup in the kitchen so dinner entrees didn't arrive for well over an hour after we ordered. However, the food was outstanding. We chatted with the Manager about our experience and just suggested that he monitor the kitchen. I understand completely that you have cut some slack to new restaurants as they go through their soft openings. I think Mezza Luna will be just fine...the food was REALLY good! :024:

We were there Tuesday for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it, in fact we sat next to Bonnie and Gary at the bar. Peter was also there on Monday and had the Stromboli and it was wonderful. I had the Penne with sausage, nice and spicy, I loved it. Peter had the Eggplant Parmigiana and it was very good as well. Went last night at about 7:10PM, had a 10 minute wait for a table.

Ordered calamari to share. It was the "pre fab" type that is small rings, heavily breaded and obviously frozen prior to cooking. We prefer calamari that is fresh and includes the tentacles. Was not bad tasting, just not our cup of tea.

Shared a large cheese pizza with sausage, garlic spinich and topped with fresh arugula. Great thin crust with nice tasting sauce and toppings. This pizza is a do over.

Wine by the glass, Kendall Jackson Cabernet at $7. per glass was a minimal pour and when it was pointed out to the waitress, she agreed and had the bar manager come over. Bottom line, he provided additional wine for each glass. Minor hiccup and not a big deal.

The restaurant is clean and organized well and our waitress "Tracy" was friendly, helpful and competent.

We will return.

As we were leaving we noted that they had a sign up that the kitchen closed at 8pm. There was also a note on the door that they are currently going through a "soft opening" and will announce their grand opening and permanent hours soon.

Hopefully the manager will make sure the folks answering the phones are properly trained. Tried to call in an order for pick up (pizza) and was told they were not "officially" opened even though I could hear a lot of customers in the background. When I ask for a pizza with the "works," the fella on the phone had no idea what I was talking about and said their menu was very limited at the time. I told him I had talked to the restaurant manager earlier and he said the pizza would be no problem. He wanted to put me on hold to check...instead, we called Giovanni's who always delivers an excellent product. Will consider giving them another try once the dust has settled.

Went there last night. People were coming out as we were going in. The guy commented to me "We can't wait an hour for our food." We thought he meant there was an hour wait for a table. As we got inside and approached the hostess stand and waited for her to return, I saw another couple get up in disgust and walked out of the restaurant muttering "This is ridiculous!" Apparently there was some major problems here with getting food in a timely manor. Rather than add to the problem, we left too and ate nearby.

Looks like they can't keep up, even when the restaurant isn't full. Anyone else experience slow service here?

Maybe opening a new restaurant in TV at busiest time of year when population is at highest is a mistake that some make. The initial impressions get around and things get worse. Maybe they should schedule openings during the summer and then have all of the kinks worked out before the crowds arrive. Just thinking...

Having been in the restaurant business for 30 years and having visited Mezza Luna.

I would reduce the size of the menu now.

I would insure the quality of the remaining items served is the best it can be.

Do fewer items right

Then add items back as the staff and kitchen can handle it.

Does not do any good to have a nuclear meltdown when you are trying to entice new customers.

I had a very disappointing sandwich at Mezza Luna. There was one very slim piece of ham and an equally slender piece of cheese, a little lettuce and a few hard to find red peppers, little substance presented in a two inch thick sub roll! It would not compare to an Italian sandwich from any sub shop. I will not be in any hurry to return.

Eight of us went after golf yesterday about 5:00. Hostess was very friendly and they seated us before the 15 min. Quoted. Our server was knowledgable and pleasant. We all ordered something different and I don' think there were any big complaints other than that we had to ask for bread.

I have eaten at Mezza Luna 6 times since they have opened. Four times for lunch and two for dinner. All 6 meals were very good. The service was slow a couple of times but we were not upset. It just gave us more time to visit with friend that we were with. Ate lunch there today and the service was very good. We will keep returning to Mezza Luna for quality meals.

Tierra Del Sol.....went with a group of people. ...was charged a $5 "Split" fee for a $10 hamburger which was not very good.....and all they did was bring out an extra plate....when I questioned the owner, he very sarcastically told me that if I wanted it split then I should have asked waiter to split it when I ordered it. Who would have thought of that....then I was told if I wanted free entertainment I should go to square......nasty attitude by manager and mediocre service will cause me to never go back there again.

I really don't blame restaurants for charging a hefty split fee. You're taking up space, using dishes, and causing server work, for which there is no tip. It's just cheap. Why not each order something and take leftovers home? Good for lunch the next day. Turn your oven on to 200 degrees and reheat for ten minutes. JMHO

15 of us went to Mezza Luna tonight after golf. First group got there about 4:30...no problem getting two tables of 8 and seating people as we arrived. To a person, everyone raved about their food. Service was excellent and timely. Server went out of her way to assist one in our group who needed gluten free. Will definitely be back!!!

THAT is very sensible. I hope they do what you suggest.

Went for dinner on Tuesday night. Arrived around 4:45 and was told a 45 minute wait. The place was packed. Since we are retired, and don't have a curfew, we waited outside with alot of very nice patient people. We all had a great time. It only took about 30 minutes to get a table. The waitress was great, explained a few items we had questions on and everything went smoothly. We had a booth that was well lite and even though it was noisy we had no trouble hearing each other. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Am excited about getting a new restaurant that isn't a typical chain.

Well, it could be that people have different expectations about the quality of service and preparation of food.

Or, the restaurant just may be having start-up growing pains and service and preparation will smooth out as time goes on.

We usually wait till the bumps are all ironed out before going to a new place--kind of like not buying a car the first year that a new model is introduced.

A group of us went for lunch on Nov 21 2013. Pizza oven down, slow service, dishes very, very skimpy, lasagna was cold and "thin" (thought it may be chicken parm!), Wrong lunch brought to one of us, meat on sandwich was hard to find, the 1/2 meatball sandwich had one small meatball cut in half placed on hero with too much sauce. Maybe one person out of eleven thought it was okay. They have a very long way to bring the food, service and value up to just an okay rating.

Went last night. Sat and ate at the bar. Our meals were delicious. The place was packed with a lot of people waiting outside. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and enjoying everything. We were there for quite some time as we were enjoying some drinks as well. We think it's a great place. Ran into several friends and they all liked their meals.

For an outstanding meatball parm hero try Legends Cafe on 27-441 in Fruitland park, the best that i've had......

Actually I do have a few I don't care for so I just don't go. I'm just not a big complainer. I know other people like the places I don't and I never want to see any place struggle or close. It's so nice to have so many choices. There is something for everyone.
There are even a few restaurants that have been here awhile that I have never even been in. LOL

THAT is very sensible. I hope they do what you suggest.

We went to there last night and didn't find the menu to be over the top in the number of selections. They are still on a soft opening per our server. We were seated immediately (as it turns out we beat the crowd) and the server was very good. I asked about her recommendation between the chicken marsala and the carbonara dish and she indicated that she preferred the carbonara herself, although the marsala was also good.

The restaurant was clean, as were the restrooms (ok, here comes the subjective part)

We tried the coconut shrimp appetizer which was pretty good and reasonably priced. I had a salad (typical salad but a good portion), which was the chicken marsala. My wife had a salad as her entrée which she thought was "good". I also had a glass of the house Chardonnay and with the happy hour price, it served it's purpose.

The chicken marsala was good (not great IMO), a little on the sweet side, and the angel hair pasta a tad over cooked for my taste. I did find the dish to be a tad bit over priced (it was $16 and probably should be in the $12-$13 range). The chicken was served as a single piece over top of the pasta with the marsala sauce on top.

Overall a good, not great experience. I am not sure that I got the value for my money. I would say give it a try and see if it aligns to your tastes and if so. enjoy!

Once all the whiners leave their reviews
This new restaurant will do just fine the ones with the most complaints are always the first inline. Perhaps CiC'S was all their dinner pallet would allow.

Went there last night. Great meal and service for everyone in our party. The problem they have and hope they correct soon, when I started to sit down I noticed wet spots on my chair. I wiped them up, sat down and noticed something dripping on the table and me. We told the waitress and moved down to another table and all was fine. Might be AC problem in the ceiling. Fettuccine Carbonara, awesome.

We went there twice since we moved in a week and a half ago-once with a large group and last Fri just the two of us. Both times the food was excellent (loved the eggplant parm!) On Friday our server was a cute little Latin girl, who seemed brand new. We got a kick out of her encouraging us to speak Spanish!

It comes down to the cost. When owning a business a smart owner (or one that wants to stay in business) has to figure the cost difference between the
pasta and the veggies.

I own a business. Customer service is King, but I still have a bottom line and that's all that's to it.

As a foodie and a Diabetic, I still say this is an Italian restaurant and pasta rules the day and the menu. It does not hurt your diet to treat yourself to the pasta. It is low on the glycemic index. You cannot expect a restaurant to "give" you $1.50 in veggies in exchange for $.25 pasta. If he does that, he has to pick that up off of someone else in some way.
