I am packing up to move to the Villages. "T" minus 8 days! I have a question about garbage service. Do they provide you with garbage cans there or do you provide your own. Do they have recycling there? If so, do they provide the containers or do you provide them? I don't know if it matters what Village you are in, but I will be in the Village of Poinciana. Thanks!

Have you closed on your house yet? If not, they will give you all that information.
The villages doesn't provide trash cans and requires a plastic bag with garbage be put out by the curb and it will be picked up. Don't buy any cans, like I did, cause they will just sit in your garage.
Recycling is done once a week and all recycled items (plastic, cans, etc.) are in one bag (clear bag) and placed on the curb also. The rules are the same no matter what village you are in, but there are different pick up days per village.
Hope this helps.

Great! Thanks! That's what I needed. I spent a pretty penny on really good garbage cans here, and I was going to bring them if I needed them, but I am now going to give them to my daughter. Thanks for the info!

Your trash bill is on yoiur VCDD utility bill monthly--- water/sewer and amenity charge is also on the same. You pay for your trash collection if you are here or away---currently $17.90 a month. This should all be explained at your closing.
I know it's an exciting time---a warm welcome to TV.

I do actually use a garbage can on wheels and with a lid in my garage to hold all the trash bags until collection day. Just makes for neater garage but I'm a neatnik. :-)

McP1605, hope your move goes well!
When you get all the info at closing re: the trash collection, make sure you take note of how they want the items bundled - specific color of bags, lawn clippings in the big brown bags, etc. chachacha mentioned in a post a while back that her pickup got refused for being in the wrong color of bag! That unusual but I guess it can happen.
Enjoy!

We use 2 small cans in our garage to house the bags until pick up day. Having bags lying around in the garage is not our style. That's just us.

I know this is the way it is supposed to work, however the last 3 Fridays wHich are our trash and recycle pickup day, I watched the trash truck pick up both trash and recycle bags into the trash truck. Yes I use the black and clear bags as instructed but for whatever reason they go into the same truck. The recycle truck comes by an hour later but our recycle bags are gone.

As Kathie said, they don't want garbage cans at the curb, just bags. However as others have mentioned, we do use plastic garbage cans in our garage to hold the bags upright until they're full.

I've always been surprised that animals don't get into the bags at night and create a mess. Up north bags would have been a big no no.
Either there isn't any raccoons or bears in TV, or the guarded gates and community watch folks revoked their gate passes. :MOJE_whot:

I like it that the trash is picked up twice a week (our days are Tuesday and Friday a.m.) so there's not a big buildup of bags in the garage for long. Recycle bags are collected on Fridays, and landscaping clippings, tree/bush trimmings, leaves, sticks etc are collected on Wednesdays.

We were informed...
.........the "clear" recycle bags go on the OPPOSITE side of your
driveway, along with any un-bagged cardboard.
If all items are on the same side of the driveway as the black bags,
it "must" and will be picked up as garbage. (We had the same experience.)
If they are seperated "and" on opposite sides of the driveway and still
picked up by garbage truck.....we need to call...usually caused by a substitute (or new) employee.

There is a Thread regarding a black bear in Winifred. The photo was suppose to have been taken. Absolutely hilarious.
Raccoons and foxes have been sighted and a Bobcat or two----but the Florida Black Bear priceless. $895,000 plus or minus a month for trash collection ---they shouldn't be too "picky" as that is a pretty nice contract.

Our 'hood is IN Sumter County-Villages....
>>>..... garbage/trash pickup is on Monday and Thursday.
>>>......Recycle is also on Monday and Thursday.
>>>.....Plantings and yard waste.....
.............such as tree and shrub trimmings are picked up on Wednesday.
.............."small" trimming pieces and leaves must be bagged in those
big ole' brown paper yard waste bags available at Ace or Home Depot or Lowes.
..............you DO NOT have to bag larger pieces such as branches from trees and shrubs...BUT...they must be UNDER 4 feet long..... and......... .............must not weigh over 30 pound PER piece.
Only request is that cut piece should have leafy portion toward your house
and the stem where it was cut should be facing the road.
There is NO limit to number of bags and branches...
..........................as long as they came from your yard.
You could even put old furniture out for pick-up.....however....
you MUST call to inform they so they can schedule TWO workers
ON the truck....in addition to the Driver.
The Driver is NOT to get out to assist with loading.....their job is to
watch for people and traffic and safely pilot the truck.

Once in a while you WILL see trash bags ripped open by wildlife in
our 'hood... but...ours has NEVER been messed with by animals...
...I wonder......
...could it be the common household/laundry ammonia keeps them away.
I ALWAYS pour a little IN the bags....and... drizzle a little around the bags
when they are put out the night before pickup.
Ammonia is an amazing pest control.....
......prior to living IN the Villages had a den of skunks living IN the 12 inch
tube under our driveway approach.
Late one night...as they were out and about...I poured TWO Gallons in each end of the tube. Never saw them again.
Works for snakes, also.

I put out the garbage can when I was on a lifestyle visit and they took the can and the garbage and I had to buy a can to replace the one that was taken.
