They had a soft opening last night for contractors and employees. Not surer when they will open to public. you can get there from 42 or 25. Signs are in both places. It is an upscale gator joes.

We went there today for lunch. Excellent food! Wait staff seems very organized. The gumbo soup is to die for!! A bowl of this could be a meal. Great views. My husband had the shrimp creole and I had the fried chicken. This place is a MUST to try. Easy to get to. They give directions on their website. I didn't notice a house salad and the coleslaw serving was just a "taste". I could be wrong about the house salad. We will definitely return!!!!

I have eaten at several Tampa Bay area restaurants where Chef Dave Del Rio ran the kitchen ... all had excellent food.
Most notably, Del Rio’s Cafe. Which is were he refined his Cuban/Spanish/Creole fusion style. His Gumbo rivals Mulate's in NOLA!

Had dinner there last night with my far, far too good look'en GF for me.
Nice place. Well done up scale, Fla cracker, fish camp kinda motif. Nice indoor and outdoor dining areas with small'ish indoor bar area. Down stairs is a large outdoor bar that was a pretty happening scene with a band playing. BIG beach area on the lake with floating docks large enough for 20 25 boats to tie off.
Service was good and the staff was trying hard ... for their 4th day they are off to a good start.
Decent beer selection (they did New Belgium Fat Tire on tap) but considering they had $80.00 bottles of Champagne on the menu, I thought the beer selection would/should have more craft and micro brew selections.
Food was VERY good! Excellent smoked fish dip (Mahi & Wahoo) for starter. GF & I shared a bowl of gumbo (it was every bit as good as Del Rio's Cafe I mentioned above) and Shrimp-n-Grits ... very, very good. Even though we were stuffed (nice sized portions of all 3 of the above) ... we simply could not resist trying the Sunset Orange Cake and it was outstanding! with a wonderful fresh orange flavor.
Entree prices are in the $12 - 20.00 range. For the quality and portion, I think they are very fairly priced.
Both owners came around and chatted us up in a genuine kinda way .... both nice guys and I wish them well ... I think they will.
I can assure you that we will be back and taking friends with us!

Went there tonight with friends. Had an EXCELLENT meal, great pomegranate martini, and our waitress, Megan, was one of the best waitresses we've had anywhere. She was professional, friendly and had a great sense of humor, besides being attentive. Will definitely go back. Oh, and the sunset was spectacular. Would love to go back when it's warm enough to sit outside. They do have the heatlamps outside and there were people sitting outside on the porch. Not brave enough to try that tonight.

Went there Tuesday night. Four in our party. Arrived at 5:00pm and were seated immediately. It was 15 minutes before we were waited on and other 20 minutes before the drinks arrived. Had to ask for silverware. When food arrived, on 3 dinners came and had to wait 10 minutes for the fourth meal.
The server was very friendly, but the service was still terrible. Never came around to see if we needed anything. Two couples came in about 15 minutes after we did, and had their drinks, dinner and paid the bill and left before we got our dinners.
The food was very good, and will give it another chance, but they need some serious work with there servers.

Have to try their special Bloody Mary. Though not much of a hard liquor drinker, thought this was one of the best Bloody Mary I had in some time. Nice place. Hope to return when the weather gets warmer and perhaps watch ladies beach volley ball like in CA. Dreaming? Perhaps

We went to Eaton Beach this evening also. Arrived at 5:50pm and was told it would be a 2 1/2 hour wait. Left and went to Carrabba's, an hour and a half wait there. Left and went to Mezza Luna. Got right in and had a very nice dinner.
Will go back to Eaton Beach again, nice setting, but not on a weekend and most likely in April when the population thins out.

The place is much bigger than I imagined. Parked a block away. Wait was 1 hour 15 minutes.
We went to the bar below and got drinks. Bloody Mary was $12. You got a skewer and go to a table where you can add shrimp , olives, and about 12 other items. We were called to our table in 45 minutes. Great service (Tracy ), Very good food. Dinner for 2 plus 20% tip was $48. Lots of young people at the downstairs bar.

This is a fairly new restaurant where the food is excellent. The chef was trained in France, then resided in New Orleans making his menu meals a combination of French/Southern. The macaroni and cheese is the best I have ever had, the shrimp and grits are exceptional. You can sit upstairs view water views, or drive your boat up the the docks. There is a sizeable beach for the kiddies. Saturday night had a 4 hour wait (not kidding), so we came back during the week for lunch.

Just returned from Eaton's Beach Sandbar and Grille. First visit. After parking, there was a group of people who cornered us and complained about how they had called ahead and still waited too long for their liking ans they suggested we just turn around and leave. We had called ahead and took the gamble that the wait was worth it. We had one drink at the bar and were seated. The food was the BEST in the area, the staff was wonderful, the chef visited tables truly interested in feedback and the view was simply unbelievable. Proof that this type of restaurant can be a great success when done correctly. We encourage more restauranteurs to consider the business model used by Eaton's Beach!!

We went at Eaton's yesterday arriving at 11:15 am. The place was hopping. Beach area full with sun bathers, some young ones playing volley ball. Downstairs packed when we left. They do have a separate restaurant downstairs that carries hot dogs and brats and, I suppose, other lighter fare.
We ate upstairs. Husband ordered Spanish Catfish (so good the first time we visited), I had Shrimp Creole (a little too much sauce, would like to taste the shrimp more, but not bad). Friends had Spanish Chicken (very good) and something else. Service a little slow, BUT it was so busy and NOT a problem for us. Food worth the short wait. Friends were impressed.
Upstairs restaurant was packed.
Beautiful day and great food. Glad to see them busy.
Bus was running helping people who had to park further away.

Went there for dinner Wednesday night. Got there around 5:30 and the place was packed inside and outside. Tried to call earlier to make a reservation and they were not taking any. We, party of 6, waited outside and finally had to go inside as the weather cooled down. Packed inside also with people waiting. We were finally seated 2 hours later, around 7:30. Main problem was there were large parties of 12 or 18 that were seated, so serving time and the lack of tables for smaller groups were used up.
Once seated though waitress was right there to take food and drink orders, and our dinners were served in a short amount of time.
It seems as thought the restaurant is going to have to limit the number of large parties to be seated at the prime time of the dinner hour. We did see a number of people leave when given the waiting time.
Food was very good with a varied and unique choices.

Was there last Friday. Party of 10, we called ahead. Got there at 5, seated at 6, orders taken at 625, food was served at 740. We are thinking that the kitchen can't handle the load. On our way out (about 830-ish), I overheard someone remark "how can there be a 45 minute wait when they have open tables?"
We sat upstairs with a great view of the lake and beach. The setting and view is the big selling point.
IMO the food was OK and flavorful, I had the salmon. One of our group had the shrimp and grits, which he said was overly creamy and somewhat cold. I took his word, I'm not a grits person....
Our opinions may be tainted due to how long it took to be served....

Just to be accurate, Eaton's Beach is not a new restaurant. It has been there for years since the early 1900's at that same spot. It has just been modernized over the last year.

We've been twice to Eaton's Beach. Both visits were on busy weekends, once in December, and again in March. We go in mid afternoon to avoid the crowds, but of course the place is so popular it's always crowded. However we got a table overlooking the beach with a minimal wait time.
The venue has great views and you can feel the energy radiating as you approach. Good food, professional servers, it's a really great spot!

When a good restaurant is understaffed, they will leave tables open rather than subjecting their customers to poor service.

I have never been able to figure out why anybody would want to go out to eat in a group larger than two or three couples. There is no way to converse with most everyone at the table without shouting. Also, it is harder to get seated and a burden on the kitchen and your servers to get everyone served at the same time. Quality absolutely has to suffer.

You are absolutely right about the size of the group. In my above post our party of nine experiences that when we go out to dinner. Several mentioned the enjoyable evening we had at Eaton's Beach................one of the reasons; during our wait we had a lot of time to talk over a couple drinks.

Well, they are at fault to a degree. Assume the large party of 18 took up 5 tables for at least 2 1/2 hours. I believe a restaurant wants to turn a table every 1 1/4 hour. So 5 tables seating 4 (20 total) and a possible turn of 1 1/2 to 2 turns in that time period vs serving 18 and one turn, can add up to a substantial loss. Add to that coffee and dessert for some means more time lost. Also more than one waiter is going to be needed, cutting the availability of staff waiting on the other tables that are seated. Then, the time that the kitchen staff is taking to plate and serve so most of the large table can eat at the same time. Then the kitchen staff has to get back up and going to take care of all the other tables waiting for their dinner which is now back logged all the way to the patrons waiting to be seated.
Kind of like a whirlpool.

True for now. Because think about the potential patrons that left because of the long wait, and told their friends about it and they told their friends also. Plus the 29 posts on TOTV and all the readers checking in on the posts. What may happen is potential customers will not take a chance on driving out there and not being able to be seated in a reasonable time, or leaving after a long wait and looking for another place for dinner much later than the wanted.
It may be their game for now, with a long wait, but the upside will be when less people go there for dinner, ergo, shorter wait time!!

There's always one... My wife and I stopped one recent afternoon for some wings and beer. The wings were half done and very fatty. I'm talking visible fat under the skin. Complained to the waitress and she didn't offer to fix anything. She just said that's the way chicken wings are and there was nothing she could do about it. Now, I have eaten my fair share of chicken wings and these were NOT the way chicken wings are. But what irked me more was that nothing was going to be done to try to please us. We drank our beer and left the wings. We are in no hurry to get back to EB.

My wife and I did "call ahead" there last night. We called at 4:45 and were told it would be 45 minutes so we left TV immediately. Arrived at 5:15 and were told it would be at least an hour wait. They have a system there were they take your cell phone number and call just before your table is ready. A couple who walked up when we did was told the wait would be 2 hours. We left, ate somewhere else and went home. They called at 8:15 to say our table would be ready in ten minutes.

Last night 8 of us went with a call ahead. Waited about 1 hr after getting there. They put us at 2 separate tables that could not be put together. also had 2 different waitresses so the checks were confusing as the men sat at one table and ladies at another. I had salmon which was very dry and not hot at all. Told waitress but nothing was done. On the other hand I had a very good experience at lunch a few days earlier, go figure......

Where did Eaton Beach's bus pick you up from??
I've heard - but don't know any details - if you have a large group you can call Eaton's Beach and they'll send their bus for you.
I've eaten there 4 times and have had a great experience every time - love the shrimp and grits!

The bus for Eatons Beach picked us up at the home of the couple who organized the group. We all met at their home and were dropped off there when we got back from the restaurant. We asked the driver about picking up people and he said that he goes to SweetBay parking lot to pick up groups also. There is a requirement of 10 people and no more than 14.Each person pays $5.00. The driver also came by our table to see how we were doing and to let him know when we were ready to go back.

We went Saturday. Had a great time watching patrons arrive then wearily leave much later. Nice clean place, good food, band playing, and a 20 mins ride to "the beach" from Buttonwood - BTW you can call ahead for dinner reservations, and there are no coolers/food/drink allowed to be brought in. Gotta buy there.

Saw the bus when we went there tday, but didn't know what it was for.
A word of caution - probably too late now, but worth putting out: We arrived at about 1:30 this afternoon, after having found Gator Joe's jammed. Were told that it'd be almost 2 hours wait! Already hungry, we came back to the Lighthouse and were seated virtually immediately!
Should note much of the crowd were young - we suspect a horde of Spring Breakers. Probably not a good idea to go there (or even to Gator Joe's) on a nice Sunday in late March - early April.
After our snowbird friends go back north and kids go back to school, maybe we'll try it again.

Went for a late lunch/early dinner today - arrived around 3:30 and no wait. Have to say it is the most interesting menu and best food I have had since we moved to The Villages 2 years ago. Not the same old, same old we see in our restraunts, but the real deal interesting food. The four of us shared an appetizer, had 7 beers, and each had a meal and the bill was $96 + tip. Worth every penny and then some. Can't wait to go back.

We went there with a group on Saturday afternoon. Weekends are much busier, and I recommend going mid week. It was lots of fun but they were overwhelmed with bikers from Leesburg Bike Fest. Still, it was pleasant, but no restaurant can cope with that big a crowd. My mid-week visits were better. I will leave weekends for the folks who work all week.

had lunch there on sunday, sat outdoors overlooking the beach, on the bar level; music was a bit loud but not so bad. there are signs on the beach prohibiting smoking, so the smokers would come up on the steps leading to the beach and then would light up. can yhou tel that i abhor smoking and do not want it anywhere around where i am eating or anywhere else?
food was good, drinks were a bit high priced for this area.
will be going back to sample the dinner menu.......interesting choices.

Great views with great food. We are planning a 4 hour excursion on Lake Weir this summer. Rent a 16 ft pontoon boat at "lakeweirboarrentals.com". For 4 hours on the lake for 8 couples it is under $16 per couple. A nice cruise around the lake and lunch at Eaton's Beach. What a nice getaway so close to The Villages.

Went to Eaton's Beach yesterday and was quite impressed. A nice beach, the Sandbar beach bar with live entertainment, a nice restaurant on the upper level, a happy hour, large outdoor areas on both levels to have a drink or eat, and really good food with excellent service. And perhaps the most amazing thing is that all of the aforementioned is smoke free. There is a designated smoking area to the side on the lower level for those who wish to have a cigarette. It is isolated enough not to be a factor.

Great food and service. Have been there almost weekly. Best to go about 4:30 before the crowd. However, usually room at the bar until your table is ready. Last time there, a pontoon plane landed. Many folks on boats pull up for dinner. Great sunsets also.
You're going to love the place.
The place was so quiet for so many years that neighbors never anticipated the current crowd and noise. Many homes now have "For Sale " signs.

We went Memorial Day for lunch and sat in the lower level where the music was played. It was a single musician with guitar and vocals backed with a band in the box. He was playing when we got there and when we left two hours later, he never took a break. He was good and not too loud. The only smokers I saw was a couple with a small child smoking on the steps to the beach and a waiter went over to them and told them there was no smoking allowed. I didn't see any dogs, the only negative was a lot of flies. It made you want to eat faster, as soon as we finished and threw away out baskets the flies stopped. My neighbor went on Saturday and sat upstairs and said, even with the A/C on, they have the windows open and have flies in the upstairs dining area as well.
They had a BBQ going on, so I got the pulled porch sandwich and my wife got grilled chicken breast sandwich. They have a small tabletop menu in the lower area and that's all you can order downstairs. The sandwich was good, about as good as a similar sandwich at Sonnys.
We went there Monday afternoon. Duo called "Diamonds and Spurs" played late afternoon in to the evening. They were very good. Had dinner upstairs and really enjoyed it. There were 12 of us and each ordered a different entree so we got to sample quite a few things. I had the shrimp and grits and liked it. Spouse had Spanish catfish which was delicious. Best thing on the menu, in my opinion, was my appetizer, Crawfish Pie. Absolutely great! Chef is not afraid of spices. Best that I have ever had. Was enough for a meal but I begrudgingly shared it! I have to add that the service was excellent in spite of the size of our group. Can't wait to go back.:BigApplause:

It did not take that long to get our table but the inside had a nice crowd of smiling people. We had grab a drink downstairs as we waited so Josh ,our server, was ready to take our order. Nice big menu with many choices with alot of cajun and low country dishes. I had read that the chef had worked in Ybor city and was Spainish.
My guest is gulten-free and this was easy for them to offer several choices with a smile. Their Bronze chicken with beans and rice was a winner. I had the shrimp poor boy that had a nice remoulade sauce but the fries were under cooked and cold. I told our server and in a few mins. I had a very hot portion in front of me. I think this is a great place and will be back, but I think this place fills up fast so get there early.

We felt for the food prices that we should have gotten a salad and bread. The prices were OK too if we had received an entire meal. The best thing was that they have Yuengling on draft.

I think you may have made a mistake somewhere . . .
My husband and I were at Eaton's for dinner this evening. We sat in the bar area having a drink, while waiting for about 45 minutes to be called for a table.
I had a well gin and tonic that had no shortage of ice. I've never heard of a gin and tonic that wasn't served with ice, so something is wrong there. That well drink was $5.00. My husband ordered Chivas and was asked how he wanted it and he replied on the rocks. Because that was a call drink, that was $8.00. Again -- no charge for ice.
On neither drink was there a charge for ice. If you were in fact, charged $3.00 for ice, which sounds pretty incredible, the onus was on you to ask for clarification.
I've never heard of anything so ridiculous as being charged for ice at a bar.

I have been charged an additional charge ($5) for ordering a premium liquor neat at the Parasol Down lounge at Wynn Las Vegas. When I questioned the charge the manager came over and explained that when ordering a premium neat or on the rocks there is a up charge because the pour is larger than in a mixed drink, 3 ounces as compared to 2 ounces in the mixed drink. That is the only place I ever encountered the up charge and I felt it was explained to my satisfaction.

The point I was trying to make was regarding "ice."
I mentioned the other details to give the complete picture.
I know that Tanqueray, like Chivas, are both "call" drinks.
I mentioned the price we paid for a call drink and a well drink
to show that there was no up charge for ice,
particularly when the server asked my husband
how he wanted his Chivas -- up, on ice, with water, etc.
Anyone who is charged for ice at a bar should question the charge!.

Just as a thought given the overview of villagers experience with restaurants in the area it doesn't take much to please....meaning its all relative.
I was told the drinks are priced quite high. My friend owned three restaurants and once told me he made his money at the bar and not the dinner tables.
Since that discussion I seldom ever order drinks out.
It still baffles me that with such an increasing population here and from all over the world this area has scant acceptable eating places? Perhaps we should petition Guy Fieri to generate some diners drive-ins and dives

We were there on 10/25 and after a short wait were seated inside. We ordered and my brother in law girl friend found a long hair in her salad. She mentioned it to the waiter and he said should I get you another one and she said no. She ate the entrée. When the bill came she asked if anything was taken off the bill. He said he would check with the head waitress and found out since the salad was included free with the meal there was no discount. I'm not making this up. So make sure if you find a hair or bug in your meal save it for the entrée. I can't believe they bus people in to here, never again.

We have been to Eaton's Beach about 4 times now. We ate outside twice and the last time it was duck and the bugs were terrible. So, went again about 3 weeks ago and were seated inside. It was dark out. The lights had attracted the bugs prior to the doors being closed so there were just swarms of bugs around the lights. As we sat at the table getting our drinks, we noticed the bugs kept flying down on our table. We were killing them the best we could as they landed. Then our meals came, and the bugs were literally falling from the lights onto our plates. It got so bad that the bugs overpowered our plates and we could not eat our meals. The bugs were the worst for two of us....must be we were seated directly under the lights. There were 6 in our party. I called the manager over to explain that the bugs had overtaken our meals and she apologized and took my meal off the bill. My friend who was sitting next to me didn't have her meal taken off. I encouraged her to speak up and she declined. The manager said they were getting screens for the large doors to help with the bugs. Service was very poor as well. Server didn't check back with us but once a while after we got our meals. We haven't been back since. Probably won't return.

You should have gotten the manager over to talk to you. Things like that can happen at any restaurant. :mmmm:

The manager did come over to talk to us. That's who took my meal off of our bill. This isn't the first time we've had poor service there. Don't want to have to play the poor service game any longer.. I just feel that there are so many great restaurants to dine at so we choose to patronize those restraunts.

I agree, keep up the negative comments about Eaton's Beach
That will make more room for those of us who love it there.

Have eaten there several times. Food and service were good each time. No bug problems during our visits. Have sat indoors and on deck. If you don't want to wait in line, get there before the peak lunch and dinner hours. Otherwise, enjoy your favorite beverage over looking the lake before you get your table!

That may very well be your taste, but I have yet to eat ANYWHERE in The Villages I'd wait an hour to be seated. I'll take Lake Weir view any day to sit, relax and enjoy an adult beverage while I wait.

After 6 of us going to Eaton's EVERY Sunday after polo and dropping approx. $300 per visit, this polo season we went 1 week early, called ahead approx 1 hour before anticipated seating, checked in upon arrival...and waited. Ok, we expected an hour, which is what we were told on phone and in person. After 1 hour we checked (it WAS very busy that day). We were told about 10 minutes. OK. After 1 hour and 15 minutes we checked again--were told next 6 top was ours. Watched another group get seated there. Why not us? Because they were a 7 group. Next one-ours. This happened 3 more times--each time because "they were 7.) FINALLY a 6 top-told we could not have it because a group of 8 had arrived. THEN shown to a table for 4 with 2 added at end. It was SOOO tight, we couldn't even sit down at it. This was after 1 hour and 40 minutes. We were furious and left--vowed NEVER to be treated that way again. AND we were told all these people were ahead of us--but not when we arrived. I saw the list. Sooooo we called to Francescos; they set up a table, ready when we arrived and now THEY get our every Sunday business of $300. This was NOT wise on Eaton's part--but they had all young girls running the seating--no manager in sight.

We stopped going to EB because of the service. We had half cooked chicken wings, complained, asked to speak to a manger... nothing. Our server should have been fired IMO. We left and vowed never to return! Yes, it is a beautiful place but good service and good food is more important to me!

don't know if they changed chefs lately -- but we had a late lunch here last week and 6 for 6 people we were all disappointed -- terrible service -- food less than mediocre -- great view -- very unhappy because last season we had some really great meals here -- definitely not worth the trip.

The best thing I have found on the menu is the Smoked Fish Appetizer. The Shrimp and Grits is far better at Hemingway's in my option. It is up to your personal taste, but everyone who has tried both restaurants agree with me. I love the ambience at Eaton's Beach and the fish dip is yummy.

Went there for the first time this week. The service was great, the burger was great, the fries were great, the shrimp was great, the beer was cold and, as far as the beach goes, there is a lot of sand and families with small children were having a lot of fun. There is also a steamer bar below the restaurant that looked interesting. We went down to check it out after we ate and there is live music some nights and most of the seafood is local and fresh. They have a web site with more details about music.

I just learned that you can gather up a party of up to 15, and they will send a bus for you. You can have drinks on the bus, and appetizers, and when you get to the restaurant you go straight to your table. After the meal, you are taken home on the bus. The person who told me about this had just done it, and she remembered it was $5 a person for the bus. Sounds like a wonderful way for a group to go out and enjoy a meal.
