View Full Version : Golf cart speed bump at Havana tunnel

Ok - I get the fact that maybe a speed bump is required when leaving that tunnel since the traffic coming down either hill, who have the right of way, is fast. But why put a bump in the entrance? The carts coming in have the right of way so no stop is required. Can anyone explain the rationale? It they don't change it I predict massive tie-ups in that tunnel. I hate being stopped in a smelly tunnel waiting to get out!

Anyone?

And please don't respond with "It's safety you dope". I'm talking logistics and safety. I don't see how the entrance bump helps anyone. Have their been many accidents at that particular tunnel?

Ive used this tunnel many times when I lived in Village of Hadley and never had a problem. I don't know if anybody keeps tabs on golf cart accidents at a particular place?

Yes, there have been at least two accidents, that I know of, where carts have come out of the tunnel without stopping. Even back a couple of weeks ago I was on the 4th green of Kilimanjaro when we heard the screeching of tires and someone yelling at an individual who went thru the stop to go up the hill.

I am of the opinion that speed bumps should be at the exit of this and probably every tunnel. For some reason some folks here do not like stop signs and it is the innocent person that will eventually end up hurt by that.

Russ, I cannot come up with any logic to having the speed bumps at entrance of tunnel. Someone obviously thought it was a good idea, but the reason is not obvious to me...

That tunnel is the closet I have come to an accident golf carting. A person came out of the tunnel without stopping and then stopped in middle of path . I was already half way down hill as he exited tunnel. I do not know how I did not T-bone him, but skidding, I slid behind him into tunnel. At that point, I do not know how I did not hit far side of tunnel wall after missing him. Some one was watching out for me (AND HIM) that day.

Maybe to prevent those that are exiting the tunnel from driving in the wrong lane to escape driving over the bump? Don't know just a thought.

Yes but they could accomplish that like they do at the LSL tunnel on Morse (and a few others).

Just don't get the entrance bump. I'm going to go down there today to see if it causes any major backups. If so I'll just use the multi-modal on 466a (easier to get out to Colony that way anyway since you are taking a right).

Russ...
Saw the same thing there this morning...I can't think of any good reason for the speed bump being at the entrance.

I agree. Speed bumps should be in all tunnels. We just went through that tunnel tonight since the bumps were put in and commented on what a great idea it is. Someone is thinking.

Just a thought...maybe they put them on both sides because if they were only on the exit side people may try to go around them to avoid them, thus going into the entrance side into oncoming traffic which would be a disaster.
