I would appreciate hearing from people who have CenturyLink prism cable and internet service We recently returned to our home in Pennecamp. We have Comcast cable and internet service. We've been having problems with the cable service. I've dealt with Comcast customer service several times without the problems being resolved. Therefore, we are thinking of changing to CenturyLink. I would like to hear the opinion of others who use or have used CenturyLink. I don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire. Thanks for you help.

I've tried to dump Comcast many times but from what I hear their internet is the best around here unless you have access to Brighthouse which we don't. There are mixed reviews on here for CenturyLink but mostly good reviews for Comcast internet. It has been a pain dealing with Comcast customer service however.

We too had Comcast for our first winter here, but changed to Century Link on 4/3/13. Several things I like better with Century Link:
Equipment stays in your home when you go back north for the summer.
No hassle waiting in the lines returning or picking up equipment to activate service, just call Century Link a few days before you need service.
No charge for video service when you're gone, but there is a charge for the phone number, about $20 per month even if you don't have phone with Century Link since the internet and video come thru the phone line (fiber optic).
Internet speed is constant, not like cable when it slows down at peak hours.
We had only 3MPS at first, but we have upgraded to 10MPS because it came with Prism complete package that offered free HD and DVR for life which was actually cheaper than Prism Essential in the long run.
Also got a $100 gift card for being a new customer.

I never had Comcast, but I am not impressed with CenturyLink.

CenturyLink has some limitations as to what can be downloaded due to the 3MB speed. Higher speeds are not available in my area. If you just want to down video clips and use e-mail, it works ok. I am use to the higher speeds that my previous carrier offered in that I am used to my screen changing instanteously..

They have people in customer service that don't know their product. I asked if my internet could hooked up without a phone jack near my computer. I bought a house with only one phone jack in the kitchen. I was assured in could be done. The installer said they didn't know what they were talking about. He was able to install two devices that worked in conjunction with the router, but wires were all over the place, UGLY!!!!! The installation and first bill was extremely high in my opinion. I had a phone line installed at my own expense. If you want to see who's calling you, you need a phone jack by the television according to DirecTV.

Just make sure your aware of all charges that will be on your first bill and every bill thereafter. It is easy to get through to customer service.

We've had CenturyLink for 3 years. It was a struggle at the beginning because of our distance from the repeaters. In the past year they have upgraded their service significantly. We just had a freezing problem the other night, called tech support to chat with them. They had a technician here today - He replaced all our internal equipment at no charge, fixed a minor problem with one line that they had found. Everything is working better than ever.
Best of all, I've managed to keep the same low rate $85.00 a month for internet and HD TV with a DVR which is what they quoted me 3 years ago. When the rates go up every 9 months, I call and complain - they lower my rate back to what I paid originally... So, we are more than satisfied. We don't have a land line phone - it's just internet and TV...

I'm very pleased with my CenturyLink/Prism service. Think most of the problems with CenturyLink are in the areas that they are providing service using copper (telephone lines). Things seem to be working very well in the areas where they have installed fiber optic cable. We are about 3/4 mile north of 466a, but not sure when/where they began installing fiber optic cable.

I started with ComCast 4 years ago. Nothing but problems, and zero customer service. I switched to Dish and then to DirectTV and had problems with both. Century Link Prism for about a year now and I love it. I have the high speed Internet, it never fails, never slows down, and the TV package is everything I want.

What village are you in? We're in Tamarind Grove off St. Charles and I have Century Link 10mpbs speed 'to the curb', which means no modem. I plug my router or computer directly into the phone jack. I've never had any problems or outages that I can remember.

Today for the first time my landline is not working. I have no dial tone, I called the '800 service number' on my cellphone and got a rep right away. They said someone will be out today to fix the problem. They said it looks like our area is out, and I'm the first one to report it. Our internet is still working, it's only the landline. If anyone else who has a Century Link landline you might want to check it for a dial tone.

I am in Allahambra and that is what they told me, 3 MB's only available.

Personally, for what I need to do, it works fine. I just have a pet peeve with people who will give an answer to a question instead of saying I don't know.

have comcast at each house [nj/fl] - no probs with customer service when we call - find them most helpful as a matter of fact! fact - when i called with an internet question [not problem] last 'season', the customer service rep advised me that there had been a modem upgrade since we had gone seasonal and i could go to the comcast location [and wait my turn] and pick up the new modem - no cost.

as snowbirds we use the florida seasonal service [details here http://www.comcastflorida.com/seasonal/]

small cost to keep equip in house when we're not there vs returning it to a comcast location. we set our return date and arrive 1/2 days after same and service had been restored and we were a go!

one caveat - not necessarily a good plan if one is a snowflake who comes/goes to tv several times a year and wants service when there - once restored from seasonal plan there is no going back to it until one year from last enrollment!

One man's opinion: I've been dealing with Prism for the last week. They promised a lot, but you should know a couple things. In the end, they failed to deliver for me.
First, ask how many feet you are from their server. I finally found out that they do not guarantee HD service beyond 6500 feet. I'm 7400 and it sort of works, but has picture issues and the HD On Demand does not work. That may change as they add servers, but there is no schedule. If you are less than 6500 feet away, it will probably work fine. But they also have limitations on how many HDTV signals you can watch depending on how far away you are.
Second, their menus, especially the On Demand, are awkward to use. Comcast has the best menus and navigation of any provider I have seen (Comcast, Prism, DTV, Fios).
Third, Prism can be difficult to contact too, but more frustrating is that I got different answers from everyone I talked to. I have given up with their service.
Fourth, Prism does not use coax cable to connect to the TV's. Everything is done through the wired connection into the house, then through wireless. This is great in some instances since you are not tied to the coax wiring in the house, but they will add a wired outlet for the input. Also, their whole system is built on a Microsoft product that does need to be reset occasionally- a bit of a pain since it can take 5-10 minutes depending on how many devices need to be reset.
Comcast can be a pain too, but the extra money may well be worth it.

Converted from DISH to Prism 2 months ago and are very happy with it, DVR is extremely easy to program. Have experienced no service interruptions due to weather since service is via telephone sytem.

Hi, The Prism sales guy has been talking to me about switching over to Prism from DirecTV. He quoted a fee around $99/mth for year one and then $109 in the future. That includes high speed internet service, two TVs, HD and a package that includes the NFL network (to watch the Packer games). Is this a similar package to yours? You seem Happy with the service!

Will be moving into Village of Collier soon. Are there any other options for cable phone and internet. Have only heard of Century Link, Comcast and Direct. Is Verizon Fios available. Reading these posts it appears that Century Link is popular.
