We would like to have a paddle fan on our lanai instead of the basic ceiling fan, only if they put out more air flow. We would like to find someone who has one and would love to know their opinion. Went to Pike Electric but they did not have one on display, also Home Depot does not have one on display either. I don't even know if they are called paddle fans. That's the best I can do to describe them. Thank you, Nancy
PS. My husband wants to put 2 ceiling fans in the garage to keep it cooler. Has anyone done this?

Nancy, Dan's Fan City has several paddle fans in operation.
I am putting a ceiling fan in my garage, it should help.

I put a ceiling fan in in the garage that was in my house originally. It doesn't necessarily make it cooler but the added air circulation makes it seem like it is cooler. If you spend time in your garage, you won't regret putting one or two in there.

Dear BobnBev, We took your advice and went to Dan's Fan City. The sales person was amazing. Didn't waste time showing us 4 operable fans, telling us about each ones air flow, and answered all our questions. We knew we went to the right place. The prices were great. Installation $25 and some fans (the one we picked) was $35 more and no installation fee. Very much worth it all. Thank you so much for letting us know about them. Nancy

Did you get a paddle fan? Was it's air flow a lot less than a regular round and round type? I am assuming by paddle fan you mean the ones in a row that go back and forth or do you mean a round and round with blades that look like big palm leaves? One of my favorite eateries in Hawaii has the back and forth type and they look nice but I have never seen them anyplace without really high ceilings.

Hi Trudy,
The paddle fans like the ones in Hawaii were fragile and ripped easily. Not sure what they were made of but we chose the heavier paddles that had the design of the leaf on them instead. The cost was very reasonable. Did not want to check out the air flow when I realized they damaged easily. The motor is what makes the difference. We have an Iris model home and the man asked us how big our lanai was and he had a book to be able to show us the Iris and what kind of fan to buy that would do the most good. There were 2 other customers in the store when we were there and he addressed us all and would tell us how soon he would be with us. He gave us his full attention, listening intently to what we wanted. I like that in a salesperson. Another man in the store came over to us and said he always comes back to Dan's Fan City because of the great service and the great products plus they are less than other places. He was right. Nancy

..am sure all y'all are already aware of this........
....When standing UNDER a ceiling fan, looking up...
.................and.........................blade s are rotating Clockwise....
........................................... you are pushing air UP toward the ceiling.
...when blades are rotating Counter-clockwise....
............you are pushing air directly DOWN toward the floor...
...............creating a maximum evaporative cooling effect directly below the fan.
In addition to fan speed .... MAXIMUM cooling effect is obtained by
.......INCREASING the DIAMETER of the fan... and....
................. increasing the distance from ceiling to the fan. (the downrod).
..
Our paddle fans were creating a combo of downward and outward
circulation..and were therefore gifted to a relative...
....were then replaced by larger diameter regular style outdoor rated ceiling fans.
The lanai needs OUTDOOR rated fans for two reasons.....
...motor needs to be water resistant...and...
...outdoor blades do not end up drooping in the humid weather.
