We are spending our first Christmas with hubby's family now that we are here in Florida. He is not close to his brother but we hope this opens up some doors for a better relationship. Need some gift ideas for a couple who has everything and if not they can afford to buy it. There is also a 10 year old niece we're meeting for the first time. I want to get something very special and need some ideas !!

The 10 year old would love a gift certificate from Aeropostle (sp) or Nordstrom or any tween type store.

The brother and wife, remember it is not the amount of money spent, it is always the thought of the gift.
Wine, chocolate, gifty item from Williams Sonoma, nothing taste specific, just fun.

Good luck and best wishes. You are doing the right thing and I don't even know you.

I love gift certificates to Amazon.com or Best Buy. Usually give one or two every holiday. So much to choose from on there. You could always package it with a couple of small golf items if he is a golfer. I usually give my daughter-in-law some Godiva chocolates and a gift card to Amazon.

I agree that it should be something small, generic, not to out there. A very good bottle or two of wine is always safe and appreciated. I think a gift card for the ten year is good, but I bet she'd like something to unwrap right then and there. 10 year old girls like all the scarfs that are so in right now. Since you really don't know her that would be a safe bet and then add a gift card. It's nice you are putting so much thought into it......it's important.

I wouldn't get just a gift certificate. It's too impersonal.
You could add a certificate for dinner along with a bottle of wine or whatever they like. Or maybe an edible arrangement.
Definitely a gift to open for the daughter. Lots of things to choose from for a 10 year old.

yeah...I don't care for gift certificates, unless it is specifically for something I wanted. How about a nice pretty journal? Or some nice beaded bracelets?

Thanks for the ideas!!! I put the journal and scarf on my shopping list for the 10 year old. I think she'll love them. Some chocolate and wine will be great for the sister-in-law. What woman would say no to chocolate and wine.

I wouldn't get a gift card for the 10 year old two reasons:
1. Too impersonal.
2. Kids want it now, as opposed to the near future.

I would buy her a bracelet making kit ,as my grandaughter, (she is also 10 years old), seems to like that a lot. They are fairly inexpensive and can be obtained on Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more (http://www.amazon.com).

For people who have everything, I think , something personal, like a picture with a collage of the years they were growing up as well as other family members. Maybe, they could bond on earlier memories when they were close, as opposed to bringing up their differences.
