I received this email from a friend who just moved to The Villages...Help...what or who can she get in touch with...Thanks... "We have a stray cat ( or maybe 2) stuck down in our corner culvert. The poor thing meows frequently. We and our neighbors have called animal control, the Community watch, the fire department and no one will do anything. So we have been feeding the cat. My husband contrived a plate on a string that he lowers to the cat daily. We never see the cat...stays hidden the in the pipe, but, we sure hear him. We would love to get him out. Any ideas of anyone else we can call"?

You might wish to edit the topic to change from stray car to stray cat, although I did have to click to see what a stray car might be.
Ok, see that you fixed it now.

They should locate a have a heart trap with the food in it and set it next to the culvert. I would think there would be a local source to rent a trap.

Have you tried contacting Humane Societies or Cat Rescue Societies?

Try PMing Lovinganimals on this forum. She has a live trap and experience trapping stray cats for spay/neuter. I feel sure she would help.

Good luck. I think the trap is the way to go, assuming it will fit down into the culvert.

Hang some old carpeting down and let them climb out when they want.

Excellent idea. You might not be there when they come up, at which point they will become stray cats, but if they hang around for your food source, they could be trapped.
Lovinganimals and some others of us have a loose org. of supporting her TNR efforts (Trap, Neuter, Return). She has found homes for some of the cats.

What is a culvert? I can't think of any ideas to help since I don't know what that is so I can't visualize it. I gave the trap back to Barbara Irwin of Pet lovers rescue, but I'm sure I could borrow it again.

The poor cat also needs water.

By culvert, do you mean storm drain? Did the cat get into the drain out by the street?

update: The people finally saw it and it is a kitten. I brought over a have a heart rat trap that fits down the hole and they are going to try to catch it tomorrow. Fingers crossed it goes into the trap and sets it off, and that bringing it back up goes off without a hitch!

Kitten caught. Tiny and black. Don't know the gender, the age, although I'm guessing somewhere around 8-12 weeks by the picture and haven't had it tested for anything or given any shots but by chance.....any takers out there to adopt it??
