Thinking of adding retractable seats belts for our 2013 Yamaha.
They cost $185.00 installed.
Have you added belts or thinking about doing so?

we just added seat belts to our Yamaha last Saturday, after seeing an accident where the passenger and driver rolled out of the cart like M&M s we decided to get them !
So far we like them ! Retractable is the only way to go !

I am wanting to add retractable seatbelts to our 2013 Yamaha but am at a loss as to how retain the sunbrella enclosure while having a support bar placed behind the seats.
Please advise as to who you have found to make the installation - sign me up. Lark

Could each of you tell me what type of seat you have and who installed the retractable seat belts?

I have a 2009 Yamaha with a stock seat. I have had two golf cart shops tell me that they can't install retractable seat belts because of the way the seat lifts up.

Were the belts retractable? If so, do you have a sunbrella enclosure? Was a bar placed behind the seats as a support for the belts? Thanks! Lark

I vaguely recall a letter to the editor this last summer with regard to a lady saying that the Village Golf Cart Man had finally solved the issue of retractable seat belts for her 2013 Yamaha. She said that he created a bar support wherein other dealers had said that they could not accomodate her wish for retractable seat belts. I think she said it cost her about $350 but was well worth it considering the cost of a possible ejection. Unfortunately, the article did not give her name.

I remember asking about seat belts when I purchased my golf cart in 2011. The salesman advised me against them. Since the, I know of a person in St. James who got creamed in her golf cart. I'm reluctant to drive my golf cart any distance. Some car drivers zip down St. Charles like maniacs and I've seen several near accidents. The retractable seat belts are enticing.

The POA newspaper reports golf cart accidents each month. Most of the injuries happen when people are thrown from the cart and head trauma tops the list of injuries. Roll overs are practically nonexistent.

I think I'll stick to my car for 90% of my traveling in TV.

No more head trauma for this tall blond gal! :)

I added retractable belts to my club car myself, it cost me less than $100. Pretty cheap insurance I think.

You should go into business!

I agree about cheap insurance. Maybe it's part mental as well? I can't imagine driving my car without putting the seat belt on. I feel so much safer.

Bought bar and one set of retractable seat belts on the internet for around $99. Installed them myself on a 2012 Yamaha. Drilled two holes, no problem. Wife wanted them on her 4 seater Club Car. Bought another bar for $129 that had holes for 4belts. Had to buy an additional 2 retractable belts. Drilled 2 holes, no problem.

I had retractable belts installed on my Yamaha with stock seats last week. Had them done at the Villages Cart store for $149. They work great. They install them at the Colony, Spanish Springs and Lake Sumter locations. I'm not sure about the Brownwood store. You need an appointment.

We just had retractable seat belts installed in our 2013 Yamaha by AAA Golf Carts. We feel we would rather be safe than sorry no matter the cost. Last evening there were two "almost" accidents in front of us and one could have been very serious and involved us as well.

I can't think of any good reason to not have seat belts. I'm going to look into them myself. As far as attaching them they are not as critical as in an auto where the accident may be a contact at 40mph or more. The purpose of them is to keep you from coming out of the cart. I'll probably install them myself.

I purchased my retractable seat belts on line from amazon. A friend and I installed them
ourselves ! I do have the bar behind the seat of my 2011 Yamaha. We did have to make a couple of modifications to the bar. If anyone would like to look at how we installed them and I am around I will be happy to show you !

Our seat belts prevented my wife from falling out of a cart when I took a turn too hard and hit the curb. She ended up with a bruise instead of a broken head.

With so many accident reports mentioning people thrown from their carts I would never consider not having belts in my cart. A car or another cart hitting you produces a lot of force that will propel you out of any opening. My cousin's wife died when her bike hit a grate and she went head first over the handlebars and hit gear head on the ground without a helmet. It does not take much to do a lot of damage.

I never used to use car seat belts back when it was optional until I saw a young girl halfway through her windshield. It was a gruesome sight that resulted in me never riding in a car with my seat belt.

I wouldn't consider riding in a golf cart without seat belts. In our first golf cart, a used Par Car, my husband installed retractable seatbelts. We went to the Par Car facility in Leesburg, bought them, and he installed them. It just makes sense.

The Viilages Golf Cart store does not install retractable belts when the cart is equipped with the Ultimate seats.

:agree:

I have found that many people who don't want to wear seatbelts, will point out, the one exception to the rule, where people would have been less hurt if they didn't use seatbelts. I will buy retractable seatbelts, that cross both the upper and lower body to prevent something tragic happening.

I'm going to get down from my soapbox and get a cup of coffee.

Have seat belts on both of our carts. We would not think of using them without the belts fastened. Passenger ejection accounts for a very high percentage of the golf car injuries.

Like several other people on here, I bought retractable belts and the bar to attach them to on line through Amazon.com. I installed them myself and they work great. I think the total including shipping was around $100. We use them all the time, especially when traveling on the roads where cars and trucks are.

Had ordinary seat belts installed in my Yamaha 2003 model and feel more confident. When not in use i.e playing golf, we just hook them over the back rest no problem. Villages golf carts fitted them last year for about $70 and took an hour

My question is "Why would you NOT have seat belts in your cart?" Everyone is used to wearing seat belts in a car, very few people don't wear the belt in an auto. So for less than $200, why risk anything, never mind your safety and being able to continue living the life style here.
