I think it is great that an arm of such an influential group would send this message to young girls.

Against the Cinderella culture, a Catholic high school in Kentucky has a blunt message for young girls
“You’re not a princess,” "But you can still rule the world" Mercy Academy says in a new ad

“Don’t wait for a prince,” reads another. “Be able to rescue yourself.”

“This message empowers them to move beyond that whole fairy tale idea and to write their own story."said Mercy principal Amy Elstone

A fundamental problem with our current society.

"Empowering" women, emasculating men.

Like Adam Corolla said, "in twenty years we're all gonna be chicks".

Empowering women does not mean emasculating men. A man is more than a meal ticket. He can be a real partner. My husband has always supported me in what ever I wanted to do, and he would never call a real woman a chick.

When I went to private school for high school I had a real problem getting them to let me take calculus because I was told "you won't need it girl" I am happy to see a change.

If they want to change a culture, they need to do more than coin a slogan.

Personally I've found that encouragement can be a positive force.

And I am not intimidated by confident women.

I hope to meet some when I move to TV in April.

We'll have something in common, and a good basis to start a relationship.

Most of the courses I took in school I didn't 'need' and frankly found them a waste of time but unfortunately necessary to graduate.

My wife and I are equal partners and I listen to her opinion. Neither of us feels like one or the other has to be dominant.

I see lots of men now a days that are totally emasculated and a whole bunch of women that are or want to be "in control". Whatever, but its not what I would want in any relationship I have or want.

Great message and hopefully it can be delivered to more students. Encouraging girls in no way takes away from males or serves to make them any weaker. As a rule and a whole girls seem to be excelling way ahead of the boys. Too many boys these days have chosen for whatever reason to not step up and take their place as men. For some it may be due to not having a strong male role model in their everyday lives to guide them. We certainly should not blame the females for the weakening of the male role in society today.
Oh I think you can because they have changed the discourse in society itself.

It is no different than when men were dominant in society. That was what was expected in society then and reinforced by teachers, advertisers, books, etc.

Today everything has reversed and females are now expected to be dominant and that is what you are seeing happen more and more.

Fathers are the ones who, by cherishing their daughters' natural beauty and innocence, make a girl feel like a "princess" who's protected enough to feel confident later on, to face society's demands with courage and dignity.

Unfortunately, too many girls now grow up without a father treating them like a lady, so that they can learn healthy expectations of males they date/marry later on. It's sad to see young women treated like trash by boyfriends/husbands, because it's all the young women know from experience at home and at school.

I am shocked anyone could find fault with the OP message. As above, the only way empowering women could have a negitive effect on a man is if he has the problem, not her.

Great message!

The battle of the sexes will be won by neither side as there is too much fraternizing". :jester:

A woman and man should be all, of what they want to be. There is nothing wrong in maximizing one's potential.

Oh Boy Howdy.

I am thinking how it has taken me all these years to see the fact that we are people, just people. No matter what sex we are. Some want to use power to hurt, some want power to feel secure, some want power to do good, some to do bad.

I have found that men and woman are both very much the same, with the same need to be seen as good and kind and needed. I am married to the dearest man on this earth. I have met both men and women who need lessons in patience and compassion and in responsibility and in fairness.

I don't think this is a huge issue. I don't.

We have raised two princesses. If people want to raise girls to be kings, that is good too.

I kinda like it the way it is now. Everyone has the opportunity to be what they want. And How I WISH they ALL had two parents who loved them to guide them toward independence and responsibility and compassion.

If girls aren't little princesses, how did my wife grow up to be Queen of the Universe?

And the children suffer... We're different for a reason...and we ARE different irregardless of what you wish it to be. Men and women DO have different roles in life. Different responsibilities too.
