Does anyone know of a service to dispose of old furniture that the charities will not accept. I have a couch in good condition except for some wear on one arm rest. Because of the wear none of the local charities will take it and it is too heavy for me to bring to the dump myself.

Post an add on Craig's list free section for Ocala. You may be able to give it away and keep it out of the dump Good luck.

There's also Sumter County FreeCycle. There are many less fortunate people living in Sumter County that would LOVE to have your couch. Please keep it out of the dump. Most times if you post it on Craig's list or freecyle, it will be gone within a day or two. Good luck.

One person's trash is another person's treasure. We offer items all the time through freecycle. It gives someone in need useable items and keeps them out of the landfill. Here's a link: The Freecycle Network - Posts on the Lady Lake Group (http://groups.freecycle.org/LadyLakeFL/posts/all)

This is all over the country, easy to register, and there may be someone that would be thrilled to get the couch. The link is local for The Villages.

Glad that you were able to recycle your couch.

I'd definitely go with freecycle.org (obxnana's link). Another way to go would be to ask the lawn workers -- they're always in need of things like this and greatly appreciate it.

Thanks. I listed it on Freecycle but didn't get any takers in time. I found a service on Angie's List that picks up unwanted large items and disposes of them for a small fee.
