You guys have registered a remarkable milestone. Over 300,000 page views at Talk of The Villages.(That's over a quarter of a million ;D) This site is less than one year old and has more members and page views than just about any other on-line forum of its kind in the US. This is an unbelievable number for this site. Please tell you friends to join Talk of The Villages.

Would you congratulate the people who go to Disney Land (and World) or Walt Disney and his staff? Maybe, you would if they were the recent winners of the Super Bowl, but otherwise....

Cheers :beer3: for us, and especially the good guys who built and maintain the site. I am convinced that without TOTV the wait while we sell the house and get down to TV would be much more difficult. With TOTV I feel so connected that its much easier to wait.

I congratulate because the people who make up the membership on this board are friendly, outgoing and willing to make friends with total strangers. They display an attitude that embraces camaraderie. The residents, guests and members could have just passed by the forum and chosen to not form bonds with their news friends.
If you find this little high point bothersome, I apologize.
BTW I would congratulate Walt Disney and the employees for creating a wonderful place that has changed the world.

TOTV does not seem to attract that many flamers http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/070610/18flaming.htm, trolls http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll, or other kind of ilk unlike some of the other message boards I have been on for a while. I guess TOTV has become part of Florida's friendliest home town. It seems quite positive in tone too overall.

I am so sorry, I am missing something here. I don't understand what "flamers" have to do with page views on TOTV. Our page views are members and guests. And, you are correct, it is part of the Villages culture and is positive overall.

You may get less page views to the TOTV, if you attract people who like to bait others into fights. In some Internet cultures, these flame wars http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame_war might actually attract more page viewers, but probably not in TOTV. Unless, of course, a lot of Villagers are pro wrestling fans.

I lost the point when the discussion turned to "flamers, trolls etc. All I wanted to say was thanks for an invaluable resourse and congrats to it's creators. And ,yes, I do congratulate the late Walt Disney and the great experience he created for generations of children of all ages. I repeat

I feel a little like Beady, I'm totally lost at this point. Seems pretty simple to me. We have a terrific, fun site where we can make new friends, talk about the Villages, and give invaluable advice to the Village wannabes (like me). In short, have a great time exchanging ideas. And... as others have said I do congratulate Walt Disney and the castmembers. My daughter and I visit Disneyworld every year, are vacation club members, and eagerly look forward to our time down there just being kids again. Next trip is on 21 of this month and we can't wait. We drive down from SC and this time will spend one night near TV so I can show her what I am so excited about.

Yes. Congratulations to the TOTV staff and the many posters and viewers. My point in the flamers' post is that all should also be padded on the back for keeping trolls and other internet pests out unless they have not yet discovered TOTV. Here is a little more information on trolls-- http://www.flayme.com/troll/
Here is a good quote about trolls--
"There is a small group that are dishonest and deliberately target and attack others. The anonymous nature of internet life has allowed them to take advantage and downright hurt people. I am a true believer that the main defense against these individuals is education. I will also note that I don't claim to be an authority on this subject. As a site owner, I have done extensive research on this issue and therefore have had a lot of "hands on" experience dealing with trolls, giving me a significant amount of real life reference. I hope our readers will find this information helpful." http://www.lotsofkids.com/LOK-Features/Articles/troll.htm
I have not seen a single post on TOTV which has some of these troll like characteristics. I know that on other boards I have used once a troll appears some of the regular posters and I expect many of the viewers look for a pasture without the marks of a troll. In other words, the web page hits decrease. Another link on these kind of pests http://www.spiesonline.net/cyberstalkers.shtml which also covers more serious internet behavior --Again, congrats for keeping these kind pests of off of TOTV. The love bugs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_bug are coming to the Villages soon and I expect that is enough of a problem to have to deal with than people who love fighting with others and various message boards usually by taking the cheapest kinds of shots.
I am also speaking from about 4 years of dealing with a troll on another message board. He did quite a lot of damage over that time.

That's a different kind of love bug? Could that be a verb-- to love bug? He love bugged. He had love bugged. He will love bug. He would have love bugged. Check out Boynton Beach Club at the Old Mill Playhouse. There is a lot of love bugging in that movie. It is playing until the 6th and started at the Old Mill Playhouse on the 31st of August.
