in so much better condition than those South of 466?
The greens souuth are absolute mess by comparison. The tee boxes are much better groomed....as a matter of opinion I would not use the word groomed in any description of the tee boxes and greens south of 466.
It is so blatantly obvious I was just wondering why?

Some of it may be volume of play. The four most played exec courses are Bogart/Bacall and Truman/Roosevelt.
I recently played Southern Star and the only problem green I saw was #7, with many bare/sandy spots. I also noticed they seem to be using the same tee box a lot and it showed the wear and tear while others looked pristine.
What course(s) did you notice to be in bad shape?

I would guess that it is a combination of factors, such as volume of play and the fact that the courses north of 466 are older and more established. I recently played Amberwood, Silver Lake, Briarwood, and Chula Vista in about 1 1/2 hours or less. All of those courses were in good shape.

The area north of 466 was a Horse Farm before The Villages. The area south of 466 was Watermelon Patches before The Villages.
Now you know and you can tell someone you read it on the internet.

Chula Vista greens were horrible yesterday. Worst of any course I have played lately.

Because we take care of them - fix divots and rake the traps? Since I do not play south of 466 except for the Pimlico three I cannot offer a guess other than that.

I think it all has to do with course age. The courses south of 466a will get better with time.

I've been told that it's because north of 466, irrigation is not limited to the "reclaimed" water only, and that North of 466 more water is used.

Have been scheduled to play Hill Top, Amberwood, and Chula vista these last few weeks and I did not see an appreciative difference between those courses to those south of 466/4666A.....and the manner in which I play carries me pretty much over an entire course:D

Are they the same maintenance companies doing all the courses? Even if it is the same company, it could be one crew that is in charge of a particular course is better than another crew.

I see nothing wrong with the courses south of 466a - IMO they are in great shape -- also all divots repaired and sand traps raked -- just wonderful as usual

Any golf course with good maintenance gets better as it gets older. We forget that these courses are still young. We play up North on courses that are 50-100 plus years old and try to compare them with a course 10 years old. Like everything else in the Villages it gets better with age.
Like The Villagers?
Ha. Could be true!!
