She demonstrated unimaginable courage and dignity as she led our Nation in mourning .
We tend to forget that at that time she was only 34 years old . When JFK took
Office she was age 31 .
She was only 64 when she passed away. Before her illness left her too weak she was still working as a Book Editor at Doubleday Publishing where she worked from 1978 until 1994 .
I worked with a fellow whose spouse also was an Editor at Doubleday . He shared that most often Jackie came into the office with carrying her lunch and snacks in a brown paper bag and often joined her fellow workers in the employee break-room .
I also knew a fellow employee at Chase Manhattan who was Jackie`s Private Banker . He told me that she was always very polite and dignified in every way . He also mentioned that she always sent him a personal note after every meeting they had , on his birthday and at Christmas .
Had she lived , today she would have been age 84 and Jack age 96 . Hard to imagine since in our minds they will be forever young and vibrant .
