We had company out today (called Whirlpool warranty number given with new home purchase) to check out the Whirlpool Gold Series Microwave Exhaust Fan since does not work on anything cooking on the front two burners. On our stove the larger two burners are at the front of the stove and so of course that is where you cook larger pots of things and finding all the steam goes straight up all over the cabinets. The repair guy says this is common with all the Whirlpool and KitchenAid ones? I can't believe this kind of appliance would be used in the new homes. He did a test by putting a piece of paper over the exhaust when it was on and seemed to stick and also checked vent to outside and said no problem. Any suggestions to help with this problem to save the cabinets and ceiling above?

We have the exact same problem. We also had the same problem in our previous house with a different brand. We just learned to live with it but if there is a solution we would like to know how to fix it.

You can buy the microwaves that have the fan over the front of the stove top. Most come with the fan at the rear, though. I'll be replacing my microwave soon and I'm switching to one with the front of stove top exhaust.

Have had that set up in last three houses. Really didn't seem to harm anything over time. In fact, I didn't know there was another option.

I cook a LOT and will wash my cabinets around the stove with soap and water occasionally. Grease does land there.

LG makes an OTR microwave/hood with 400 cfm and a pull out vent that covers more of the front burners. See it at Lowes. Many brands are only 200 cfm.
