Don't be shy folks. Participate in the poll. Never made a post before...here's your chance. There are over 2,500 registered users on this board. It would be interesting to learn what our population consists of. I never used the "poll" function before.....so here goes.

Plan was to be snowbirds. oooh hate the four letter word that starts with s and ends in ow.
Best laid plans always go arry. Daughter and family needed a place while they built their new home. Supposed to take one winter. Well 2 winters and 2 summers later.with at least another winter and spring..we are here until the house is unoccupied again. Go up get it ready to sell..then build a small ranch beside daughter..one floor living. We would like to get out of the heat of summer for a few months. NH is sooooo beautiful in the summer! Warm days, cools nights.

None of the above

We bought over 2 years ago for retirement at the end of next year. We saw the prices going up fast and jumped in before it got out of our price range.

Visit twice a year for a couple weeks each trip and slowly furnish the place.

I'm like chuck, johnz you need another choice, own but not retired.

We are snowbirds! We visited two years ago for a few days and fell in love with the place. Rented for a month last year and are renting for three months, Jan-March. Would love to be there full time but family is here in New England. My husband played golf probably 22 of the 27 days we were there last year. Something you cannot do in NH in February. :)

We are looking at early 2009. Will probably make TV home 10-11 months year. Won't start seriously looking until current home is on the market during the spring of 2008. We will look at resale as our first option. Only made our first 4 day visit to TV in June this year, so next one needs to get more focused. We are both golfers and I still play softball, so the appeal is obvious, since these are all things you don't do in Minnesota for 5-6 months every year.

Had to put considering only because there is no "definitely will buy". When I retire in March of next year I will buy and become Full-Time. ;D

I need that other category.
I bought in '05 and will be down next year in snowbird status.

My wife and I have been visiting TV for the last five years - two months at a time (Jan-Feb). We love the place but full time won't work because all of the kids and grandkids are here in Missouri. However, we are looking at 6 months ther and 6 months here. Our big decision seems to be what type of home to purchase in TV. We both like the CYV and have been renting a designer home for the last three years. We plan to do a thorough search when we get there in Jan. The postings on this site are great as far as explaing all the options and caveats. Keep them coming.

;D

We just closed March 2nd of 2007. We came down in July to see just how hot it gets. I have 5 acres in Punta Gorda, so I tried to tell the significant other... "It gets hot, dude!" We don't turn the a/c on up here in the Chicago burb until it hits at least 90 degrees (he pays the bills here). In TV, I pay the bills, so the a/c is ON, man! So the heat makes no difference to me when I know I have a cool villa to go back to.

I am able to telecomunicate with my job, so I am ready for FULL-TIME NOW! I am working on this with my boss (She likes the face-to-face thing, even though I work a 4-day, 10 hour day, and average 3 of those days from home anyway, and many work full-time virtual already... those jobs that haven't gone to India, that is.), in hopes I can be 100% virtual until I am 55 and then retire from my company. I want to do something I love--either part-time or full-time for health benefits and to be able to pay utilities and taxes in TV. If I could get a job for at least 2/3 (Ok, [i]maybe 1/2) of what I currently make, I'd be oudda there! Not likely, since I am self-taught instead of school-taught. Absence of a sheep skin doesn't make getting a job in the computer world easy.

OK, this got a bit long... So sorry! I get 'fingery' sometimes... *giggle*

We are also in the category of "none of the above" but not by choice. Bought in Nov.2003; retired in April 2007 and now waiting for home here in North Carolina to sell before we are able to be there full time. Hopefully by the end of the year that will happen.

Closed in July but still working up North. Will just be a vacation home until I decide to just chuck my job and be a fulltimer. Am sure after I fire-up the snowblower this winter, I will decide to put my north house on the market. Anybody need a house in Ohio? (didn't think so). :(

I will be down on Sept 20. I hope to go back to NY as the owner of my dream villa in TV. I will be a snowbird for the time being - want to be near my kids - but I have a feeling that it will be so great that they are going to have to come to TV to visit me!

We just got back from our third visit and it's just a matter of time. Expect to be there by Spring of 08. Hope the house up here sells. Biggest drawback is our grandkids. It will be very hard but we love it in TV. We both play golf and my husband is a "golfnut". See you permanently next year. :)

John Z you need another category, Those who have made up their mind to purchase but are waiting to sell their home. This is my situation but as soon as my home sells I will leave my snow shovel behind and break out the grass skirts and small umbrellas for a cool refreshing beverage of choice.*

I've looked into modifying this poll to create an additional category. The poll apparently can't be modified once created. I'd have to create a new poll with all of the categories suggested.

How do you set up the "poll" function? Wanted to do one with the best "James Bond" actor but could not figure out how?

JohnZ

It's easy. Enter the forum and click on the category in which you wish to post. Select "options" then select "poll".

We have a home in Illinois and a home in the villages, split our time, but don't like being treated like a snow bird, so have decided that we are BI-RESIDENTIAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! New category.

Johnz - What the heck does "bump" signify???

bump brings the post back up to the top, so it stays on the first page. Some also use ttt (to the top)

Bump was explained to me and I didn't get it. Now that jjdees has commented, I can come out of my "computer nerd" closet and say .. :dontknow:
I saw 3 posts from JohnZ, all saying "bump" and nothing seemed to happen. Why say bump 3 times in a row?

Just purchased on 9/10/07. Both retired but will not move to TV on a permanent basis or spend every winter as we both enjoy Scotsdale, Arizona and Palm Desert, CA. Besides tons of traveling is planned in the near future.

Currently 39% Full time and 21% Snowbird and 40% just looking.

I wonder if the 2:1 ratio of Full Time to Snowbird is due to the cost of upkeep on two locations, or maybe full time includes extended summer RV/car trips, or just enjoy TV year around and the summer weather isn't a major factor (as it would be in the Southwest), or don't like to travel, or the crowds at Disney are less in the summer, or ________?

Need another poll to see why people full time.
And another poll to see why people snowbird.
