I usually check in at TOTV at least daily. I realize it's available to me at no cost so I should be …and am…. grateful it's there for us and that so many participate.

I do get frustrated by the Search function however. Earlier this AM I tried to find info that I remembered someone posted about Rae Rae's Restaurant. I searched for posts of "Rae Rae"…nada. Waited the required 30 seconds (also frustrating) and searched "Rae Rae's". Still nothing. Gave up.

Cruised down 441 and found it. Than wanted to post my opinion on TOTV (and give Rae Rae's a well deserved thumbs up). Tried Search again. Finally went to Restaurant Discussions and found the thread (and yes, "Rae Rae's" was part of the header). Sure seems like Search should have found it.

Guess I'm used to Google that even finds my subject matter when I misspell it.

:agree: It's one of the things on TOTV that needs to be improved, big time.

I find it very difficult to find old threads that I needed info from, but then you can just ask again, and someone will give you the answer.

I, like you, are still very grateful for this site, as it is so much fun and information.

Enjoy the holiday.

This is a little bit more effort, but you will find what you are looking for. Go to google.com
click on settings
click on advanced
scroll down to "site" and put in www.talkofthevillages.com

Fill in the search field with whatever you are looking for and click on the search icon. You will see instances of your search object only on TOTV

Any equally good ideas on how to get around the 30 second delay every time you double click on something?

Yes the vBulletin search program leaves a LOT to be desired.

Good ideas about Google search. I have typed it certain businesses, and saw reviews, on TOTV. Who knew?

I am not the brightest bulb in the bunch sometimes.

Thanks for the helpful hints.

I'm so happy to learn about a new way to circumvent the TOTV search engine. It is horrible and I cringe every time I'm told to wait 30 seconds! :rant-rave:

Yes as Virtual Geezer pointed out, the software that the site is built on has a poor search function. It is the leader in forums but we agree the search function needs improved. We will have our developer see if we can have something custom written to improve.

One of the many problems with TOTV search is that short words are ignored. It even lists the words ignored in your search request.

The Google search suggestion also works with Bing (for those of you that share my paranoia with Google).
