Irrigation AGAIN!

...but here is an update.

I've just received my Nov. bill which shows 3,600 gal of irrigation usage.

I have had the system turned off and checked by landscaping and there are no issues.

I have, in hand, a meter reading of "No flow-irrigation" from the VCDD utilities department dated: NOV 1. (I requested that they come over to read the meter which they promptly did.)

I have been hand watering for two months. Last month also showed 3,600 gal usage while the system was off.

What should I suspect here?

I assume you are hand watering from the outside spigots. At my home they are part of the non potable supply. If that is the case at your home, that may explain it.

I am confused. A licensed plumber who installed our soft water system 6 months ago here in Sanibel said all outside water spigots by code are potable water. So where can I get the real scoop on this? Call VCCD? I am concerned because our system must be flushed and the only way to do it is use the hose outside. YIKES!

Probably best to check. I could have remembered wrong, but I did a lot of hand watering for new landscape and my non potable use was way up, but not my potable.

Unless someone really messed up your plumbing, the outside hoses on Village homes are potable water.

Imagine washing your car in a hazmat suit :faint:

I have neighbors who try to save money by attaching sprinklers to their outside hose bibs because it looks like the water per gallon is cheaper than reclaimed. They forget that they must pay a sewage fee.....I admit I have not done the math to see if they are right....

They are potable at the outdoor hose connections, all the pools and spas are filled from there in the homes too.

Sounds like a undetected leak in the irrigation

Yeah, I'm beginning to think that.

I just checked the irrigation meter and it already has a reading higher then my current end period bill.

Possibly a leak in the system between the meter and the valves. Also, check the valves to make sure they are all closed. We had a couple of sprinklers kinda spitting water and it turned out that the valve in the box beside the house was not closed completely. You should have a blue box beside the house and inside there are all the control valves for your system. Make sure they are all turned clockwise securely. Someone could have opened one of yours and not closed it all the way.

Actually, it still comes out cheaper on regular usage!! (This is according to my neighbor) The more usage by sprinkler system, the higher the cost factor

Interesting. Our deed restrictions prohibit running sprinklers off a hose.

Request New Meter
