This is really bothering me and I wonder if there are special rules here in the villages about parking in front of the fire hydrants. We have one across the street from us and there are cars parked there every now and then.. Aren't you supposed to park a few feet from the hydrant. When community watch drives down the street they don't do anything about parked cars in front of hydrants.

Most modern depts. today are able to connect to the hydrant with soft hoses. Years ago, we mainly used 10ft. hard hoses which required a straight ahead hookup to the fire engine from the hydrant. Now we can go over, around or under a vehicle parked in front of the hydrant.
BTW, loved the movie "Backdraft," where they laid the hard suction hose Thru the car's windows.

316.1945 Stopping, standing, or parking prohibited in specified places
(b) Stand or park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except momentarily to pick up or discharge a passenger or passengers:
1. In front of a public or private driveway.
2. Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.
3. Within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection.
4. Within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing signal, stop sign, or traffic control signal located at the side of a roadway.
5. Within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station and on the side of a street opposite the entrance to any fire station within 75 feet of such entrance (when property signposted).
6. On an exclusive bicycle lane.
7. At any place where official traffic control devices prohibit standing.
The rules have not changed, but the fire department can work around the problem. By the way, once again community watch is not there to enforce the law

:agree:
Yep, one of my favorite pictures. Of course they broke out the car windows to pass the hose through.

If it is a concern to you, call the sheriff.
