I understand that the "wall-gate" was damaged and the Sumter County Sheriff is investigating the incident. This is the gate that replaced the wall at the end of Paradise Dr. On the Historical side of TV.

Of course, outsiders must have crashed the gate, no? Gate damage happens about every other day in TV so this shouldn't be much of a surprise. All very predictable. I wonder how much is spend annually on maintaining the gates?

Having been through "the gate", I'm surprised anybody would try and mess with it. It's much heavier and sturdy than the normal gate. I know the day we went through it was actually malfunctioning, so maybe that had something do with it.

If this is true that is a heavy duty gate. That surely would have damaged a cart as well. Hope it was caught on camera .

Stuff happens? Chalk it up to someone being human and erring.

I find it diffiult to believe someone would do this on purpose, as it will onlty get repaired or replaced. IMHO

The side that exits TV was damaged.
Maybe an insider, trying to get out?...

:gc: In a hurry to get a bargain at Lowes or Wal-Mart. Of course, it was 5:00 someplace!

Why would Sumter Co be involved? Isn't the gate within the jurisdiction of Lady Lake which has its own police force?

Someone crashed the gate. Surprise Surprise. I suspect some folks crash gates because they are distracted, approaching the gate too fast or intentionally...and yes there are some folks who would deliberately take out a gate ....just because its there....maybe for some its like an invisible fence

You would think a bunch of old coots and cootettes who have been driving for some 40+ years could drive a cart through an opening without damaging the gate.

Maybe they were young "coots", like grandchildren.

I like that a lot. Never thought of myself as a cootette. It has a nice ring to it and since YOU said it and I know YOU are a great fella', I am going to embrace it.

Beats the hell outa "old biddie".

Hugs and love, Dougbee.

Gracie.

I have personally been told more than once since moving to TV "Yeah, they took my license because they say I am not a safe driver--so I just drive my golf cart".

My wife actually had a woman come visit her and say "I only let him drive the cart when he is with me because he has advance Alzheimer's. He usually will listen and not try and go on Morse Blvd like he did today".

Could have just been someone young or old--just distracted. I would hope they have camera's and can ID the person/cart.

It was kind of predictable that this was going to happen. I think they will be fixing this gate over and over and over and..........

The gates in that area are horizontal gates. They are very big and swing open like a door; very, very slowly. It would take a fool to try and ram the gate with a golf cart. I saw the gate this afternoon and the perimeter isn't damaged. It looks like there are three center rails that have been removed in order to replace them. They are in the very center of the gate.

My guess, and yes it is a guess, would be that someone went through too fast and rammed the center of the gate and caused some damage and it is being repaired. You'd have to see the gates to understand how ludicrous it is to even begin to think someone would ram it on purpose.

This style gate might not get broken. But, who knows!

We went through that set of gates soon after they were put into service. Given that they swing parallel to the ground when opening rather than raising vertically, they operated pretty darned slow. I envisioned that sooner or later, someone would try to tailgate their way through, following another cart. Who knows exactly what caused the damage?

I wonder if there's a safety wire imbedded in the pavement that would prevent the gate from closing on a cart that is in the path of the gate's swing.

But... But... Isn't a cootette simply a female version of an old coot??? I personally prefer dudes and dudettes.

Now the other gate is also damaged. Not as bad as the out gate. It is still in service. Man, you really have to hit those gates hard to do that amount of damage. The welds are broken.

What gate are you talking about? Do you mean the other side of the "wall gate" or another gate? Gates in TV are damaged almost every other day----It would be interesting to know just what the costs were per year.
