Man arrested for plugging in his Electric Car while at a High School sports function

Heard on News today Georgia man was arrested for plugging in his Electric Car while attending High School sports function. He was arrested not ticketed for stealing estimated 5 cents of electricity from the School. WOW! something for you electric cart owner to think about :popcorn:while out and about looking for free plug in. After all 5 cents is 5 cents! which warrants arrest not ticket!:popcorn:

Now the probably other side of the story? The man probably had attended several sports functions and plugged his car in for several hours. Some body noticed this freeloader and turned him in. Course this somebody was no powerless Joe Blow off the street IMO if so he would probably been laughed off the phone from the dispatcher.

Yes the somebody who turned him in had to be VIP and didn't like him getting all this free energy to power his car. again we don't want any school tax payer to steal 5 cents plus from the school and that had to warrant an arrest put the freeloader in JAIL. I mean ticket totaling probably over $100 bucks is not enough for this Crime of the Century!:popcorn:

It could be that the gentleman who plugged in the cart had the mentality that it was just a few cents and could see no wrong in what he was doing. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he argued with the police officer and, possibly, whoever reported him.

Yes, I was talking to you. You found it humorous, I guess. You also made it sound okay that the man was plugging in without permission. You obviously felt he should not have been arrested. As to finding a piece of candy for five cents, that's relatively easy -- I didn't say a candy bar, I said a piece.

If you go to many stores, you'll find bulk candies you can buy by the pound, so a five cent piece of candy is very possible (and, yes, I've seen folks grab a piece from there and I've considered it stealing as well).

And no where did I say you were the one stealing, just the one condoning theft. So, if you're going to shout at me, suggest you shout at me for the right thing.

I confess. I was driving our electric cart and ran out of juice at the parking lot of the Lutheran Church on 466 and Morse. I plugged it in in their outlet to just get enough juice to get home. I didn't have my phone.


I hope that what I did later erased my debt and my sin.
I promise from now on to only drive our gas cart.

I wonder at the practical application of this though if you carried it quite a bit further. Say, stopping every speeder who is over the posted limit for instance? What would be the cost to the legal system for all the manpower, gas, court use, etc. for something like this?

There are rape victims who are scared to come forward because of how they are seen by others as well as the trauma of going through an investigation into their private lives and then the publicity involved in a trial. Many of these cases are probably dropped by prosecutors because they are afraid that the victim will not be able to weather a storm like this. Serious matters.

Comparing this though this case of the 5 cent power thief what would really be the benefit to society of prosecuting this? Or of that of Graciegirl and the church?

Would it not be more practical for instance for the cop to chew out the man who stole the 5 cents of power than putting him through the legal system. Otherwise, it just seems like a petty waste of the court system's resources.

Can you imagine sitting on a jury for a case involving a 5 cent loss of power from a public school? I would be looking for Victor Hugo's Javert as the arresting officer.

You also have to take into consideration the fact that Atlanta, GA has hundreds of public and private car charging stations located throughout the city. They are trying to encourage people to buy electric cars.

Good point. We need undercover officers in the produce department at Publix to arrest all those retirees who decide to sample the grapes without buying any. We can then expand enforcement to other major crime areas once that problem is resolved.

I agree waste of courts time when ticket would of proved the point? I just thought it was over board by the news story I seen. I have now way knowing the REAL story or what when on during the arrest.

IMO again IMO the real theft is the outrageous taxes taxpayers pay in school taxes for little they get in return IMO especially when some school Supers Make 250K plus year which is more than the President . I do NOT have a golf cart and am very new here. Here's an idea..perhaps considering installing a plug that golf cart users can plug in their cart but requires money to be inserted first. Same principle as when gas stations have vacuums that require 25 cents for 5 minutes. A win-win situation! Just a thought! Happy Holidays to all! :)

Erijo, That has been discussed here before and was good idea, but I think cost and who would do it reason it never went any where. Most electric cart owners will tell they can go all day with their elect carts around the villages without running out of charge. Around the villages it's matter of choice elect. or gas and if you do search you will find many posts on the subject. Welcome to Paradise

This is a great idea. I will suggest the charging stations, on my first survey, of what it takes to make TV a better place. There could be a corresponding slight increase to the amenity fee, if implemented to offset the cost.

Some people buy gas carts for this reason, as TV has gotten even bigger. It takes about 45 minutes to get to Brownwood from where I live, and I would need a fully charged cart, before I would attempt thiis trip.

I like the non smell of an electric cart as opposed to a gas cart but that's just me. IMHO

Retirees seem to forget that their earning capacity has been severely curtailed , that they may out live their savings and that the cost of living and taxes will only go up. and finally it is a viable statistic that retirees medical spending is heavily increased for the last two years of their lives

You have raised many valid points but I have to say, this was wishful thinking on my part as, I don't think Mr. Morse would support this notion, for a second.

I plan on knowing at all times, when my battery is starting to run low, and will head home for recharging. This is, the best viable solution. IMHO
