I've been thinking about getting one but with this lumber issue was wondering what people do to pick up after the dog??

I have a neighbor who uses a pooper scooper. No bending just use your hand to open. Do a google search and you'll see one.

This is a no brainer, a person can easily purchase a pooper scooper with a matching broom. You can stand erect and get the job done, my neighbor has used one for years.

If you are in bad shape just walk your dog in your own yard space. There is also service I have seen around that will come and pick up and dispose of your dog waste for you :)

There is a lot more work involved in being a dog owner than scooping poop. The effort of feeding your pet and changing its water is comparable to cleaning up after it. These are just a few menial tasks involved in caring for your pet. Think long and hard before 'pulling the trigger'.

What if you had to take the pet to the vet's office?

There are a few Mobile Vets in The Villages, which come to your home. Dr. Angel Smith, 352-470-9537, is one of them.

I would respectfully suggest that if you are seriously considering a dog, that you choose an older rescue dog which is already toilet trained. I think a puppy would be difficult for you to handle. There are many wonderful rescue dogs available, all sizes, all breeds.

There is a private dog park on CR 101 in the northern quadrant. It costs $30 per month. When your dog goes potty, you put a flag down, and they pick up the poop. There are great social opportunities to sit in a group and chat while the dogs play together.

I've had a very bad back for years. I will say from experience, that taking care of a cat's litter box could be an issue. Yes, you do scoop out the poo but then what do you do with the heavy litter when you change it??!! Other than that, cats are a bit easier than dogs.

Pooper scoopers have been around for years so like what others have state here. That might be a good option.

When we use to walk our dogs this is what we used. When we got home we would discard the poop and hose off the scooper.

The above mentioned pooper scooper with the jaws is similar to the one we have only ours, you attach a poop bag, the jaws close and poop goes in bag, knot the bag and drop in small stainless trash can with foot lever to open and removable pail inside. On trash day dump contents of pail into trash. Keep pail hidden in shrubs at side of house or in back yard. Got our scooper at Petco.

In our area a young man began "Mr. Scoop" and comes to the house twice a week to scoop. I think it's $35.00 per month. We do our own scooping, but have heard he has been very successful with his business venture. Maybe there's something similar in your area.

I am shocked that someone would ask this question!!!
Why would you get a animal if you could take care of it, due to physical disabilities.
But, you could always hire a dog walker!!!

I just looked down and saw she was tearing up a Christmas card that I thought I had put up .. 6am she wanted outside.. etc etc.. good thing I love her , she is a stinker..

I agree with this. There is so much bending involved with having a dog. I looked up the poo vac. Are you kidding??? That thing is 10 lbs!!! Now that would wreak havoc on your back!!! Forget having a dog!! You would do it an injustice. Are you going to think twice before petting it?
