Driving around lately, and playing golf, I've noticed things that saddens me. We all live and play in what is probably the most beautiful place in the country.

Unfortunately it's not going to stay that way unless we all do our part in keeping this beautiful place beautiful.

Please don't throw stuff out of your car or golf car. If you are a smoker, please take your butts with you. I'm tired of picking up your cigar and cigarette butts off the tee boxes and greens. I use to be a smoker and I understand that there are fewer and fewer places around where a smoker can enjoy their habit. What is going to happen if those who smoke continue to litter the golf courses, is that smoking could be banned on the courses. That wouldn't be bad from my perspective, but that is not what I am espousing.

Please let us all take a little more pride in our community and our wonderful playground. Otherwise, our beautiful community will become just another place to live.

I Agree!!

I'm a cigar smoker, but it drives me crazy when people flick their butts and don't think it's littering.

If you don't flick it on your kitchen floor, don't flick it any where.

I'm hoping it is an issue of people not being aware rather than not caring. Driving home the other day in our golf cart, I noticed the empty water bottles in the cup holders could easily blow out as we were travelling down the road. Also I imagine it is easy for something to fly out of the basket most of us have behind the rear window. Just be aware and make sure things are secured.

Now the issue of those sorry SOB's that flick cigarettes and cigars all over the place - STOP IT!

I smoke. I have a butt bucket in my cart. There is absolutely no excuse for tossing a cigarette out of a golf cart or a window. It's not that hard to stub out a smoke and put the butt in your pack or even your pocket, so no reason to leave your litter on the golf courses or squares or anywhere else.

But it does seem that lately there's more litter than usual and I've seen fewer crews out cleaning. I hope this isn't a sign of what is to come. TV is a beautiful place and we all need to do our part to keep it that way.

I'm no angel but - I don't throw my butts on my lawn and, therefore, wouldn't throw them on yours - or the golf course.

Just as we used to do in basic training - flick off the light and put the butt in your pocket until you get to a trash container.

Not that hard.

I was just wondering if the littering coincides, with the snowbird visits?

Is this an all year, type of thing?

Just asking.... not accusing!

Sadly, I blame kids visiting more than anything else. Always at its worst during holidays. But TV normally has crews picking up the trash almost as fast as it is dropped. Doesn't seem to be the case this year.

There is more litter during snowbird season but not sure I particularly blame snowbirds per se, more like just more people so more things get dropped. As was said, things do fall off of golf carts by accident and it's not always safe to stop and pick it up.

I've noticed it more when renters are in my area.

I suspect that there are many reasons why, some of which have been previously cited. However, for the most part people who have a financial interest in their community tend to care more. While I am not shifting blame on all it would seem those who venture here for just a vacation or look see may not be as aware as the OP.

Unfortunately, agree completely with your post. We have many really super seasonal friends and it is very noticeable that they view TV as their winter playground, not their "home". It's just a different mindset.

Great point. I was smoker but have long since quit. I don't play golf (yet!) but the courses look beautiful. Its a shame to see decaying butts around.
I think your public service announcement will go a long way to make people think twice before they discard their butts on the course.

When I walk I take a plastic bag with me and pick the trash along the road.

I wish it were just the seasonal folks or the vacationers. However, the cigar and cigarette issues that I had recently witnessed, were coming from some people golfing in a group that I golf with. They are full time residents like me.

I have already brought it up with my golf group in the hopes that maybe my golf buddies will at least change their ways.

I for one love this place and don't want to see it turned into just another place to live.
