I am planning to rehab my interior of the house. I want to knock out a non-load bearing wall, add some ceiling fans, and install a couple new electrical outlets. All of this work is "interior" within the home. I and my handy man friend will be doing the work.

Do I need to get county building permits for this work?

I had heard that permits and inspection were only needed for "exterior" work or additions to exterior.

I appreciate any assistance you can offer. Thanks. :police:

Call the building department and ask them. I wouldn't take anyone's answer as gospel on a community website! If you don't get proper permitting, as necessary, and have a fire or other issues, your insurance company may not pay the claim. Find out first hand from the proper source to your satisfaction.

NEVER _ NEVER _ NEVER ..... NEVER have any work done (inside or outside) before checking with the building department about needing a building permit - and - NEVER apply, pay for or get the permit yourself for anyone else to do the work! (Did I mention NEVER?

Jim Wilson knows what he is talking about..Fooling with a bearing wall needs permits if you want to keep living there.

Just wanted to make sure you've thought this through. How will you patch the flooring where the wall is now? Are you 100% certain that there are no wires, water, or vent lines in that wall?
