Tablet Questions

I used to be tech savvy, but no more. :(

Walmart is offering a HP 7 Table for$99. I was thinking of making this a Xmas gift for myself :D
1. If one has a wireless router in their home, will this tablet work?
2. Does one need a additonal plan to use a tablet, when out an about?
3. How many people utilize the internet connections, at various businesses?
4. Is an "Apple Iphone", the only way to get connection to the internet w/o having to be concerned when out and about?
5. Is the Apple Iphone cost effective as opposed to getting a plan for the tablet?

I can answer questions 1 and maybe 2. If you have wireless at home, you can use your tablet without having an extra data plan.

As for #2, when out and about, unless you're in a location that has wireless, you would need a data plan to access the internet. For instance, my iPad has two options of accessing the internet. One is by wireless, and the other is by cellular data, and this is the one for which you need a data plan. I pay $30/mo to AT&T for this, but I love the portability (in the car, at airports, etc.) I can only quote AT&T's price.
