You know Golfingnut, I think the world of you, but I wouldn't have used the word "clarify" in this particular topic.
We are all colored to some hue. We all have the features of our ancestors. We all probably feel a certain comfort level with our ethnic groups that are familiar and what we grew up with. We make Santa and the elves and the saints and even God in our minds to look like we do.
They all look like they look and no harm done and stirring things up doesn't seem to help. Ever. Finding good in others is sometimes easy and sometimes hard, but worth the effort.
There are issues, valid issues that are relevant in today's world that are racial. but to me, this isn't one of them.

I always knew Jesus wasn't white -- didn't make sense considering the region he came from and what the people there looked like. I had some major issues with American and European churches depicting a white man as Jesus as a child. As an adult, I understand the need to have him look like the people who worship him. In Japan, there is a church with a stained window showing Jesus as having a yellow tinge and epicanthic eyes. I've always wondered, though, how Jesus feels seeing his image so skewed.

Well it should be worth the effort. The truth will set you free if you can find it. When a public figure lies, they should be called. Jesus was not a white man and as a Christian, I take offense when intentional lies are told about The Lord.
I think it has offended Christians around the world. Jesus resembled Mohamed more so than the pope. We all have limits on what we find offensive and for me this is one.

Golfingnut: I can't find a better manner to continue feckless race discussion than clarifying an issue such as this.
You seem to have this obsession with the black issue and my instincts tell me it originated 1964 (circa). This nation has advanced leaps and bounds since then and we ought to be concentrating on Americans as a unit.
Please this in your face stuff does not bode well here

Do ANY of us know how he really looks? Perhaps when viewed, he appears to each of us as our image of "beautiful".
I am under the impression that The Messiah is kind and all loving, and patient with our faults.
I don't like these kinds of threads. They bring out bad feelings and are not helpful at all.
Wait and see. Some things are better left undiscussed. This kind of thread often turns into a political fight too. There will be scathing remarks by the people who do not believe in God, and soon we will have a religious tension on here that cannot be resolved and is simply not worth our time. People believe as they believe and they are entitled to do so and hopefully those beliefs do not harm anyone.
That is a whole other issue.
Merry Christmas to all who are celebrating Christmas. Peace on Earth to all.

Does it really matter what personal opinion that some talking head on a news channel said? No, it does not matter.
I remember seeing some Biblical movies such as King of Kings. Jesus was a very tall, blonde, blue-eyed white person (Jeffrey Chandler, I think). Of course, He did not look like that. Think more of a Lebanese looking person, olive skin maybe, dark eyes for sure, probably curly black hair, and no more than 5 foot 5 inches tall. Just a wild guess on my part as even I am not that old!
Once again, does it matter either what personal opinion was expressed by a talking head or what He really looked like in reality?
Anyhow, whatever Jesus looked like, the world was changed forever with His coming, life, and resurrection.

The truth shall set you free? When a public figure lies, they should be called on it? Jesus was NOT a white man?
Religion is truth? Then why are there so many different ones? There are estimates that there are OVER 5000 different sects in Christianity alone...why so many if it's "the truth"?
There are so many lies told by public figures, it isn't funny...it's sad, yet we do nothing. Why? Why DO we put up with it?
Jesus wasn't white? Really? Then what was he? He wasn't Asian. He wasn't Negroid. He wasn't American Indian. That leaves white (Caucasian). People from the Mediterranean regions ARE white. Spanish are white, Italians are white, Israelis are white. Just because your skin is dark, doesn't mean you're not classified as Caucasian. White (Caucasian) isn't only the Northern European version of white.

I somewhat agree with some of the comments but for me it isn't an issue to talk about a "race". There are people with different colors of skin on earth but there are all human beings and at the end brothers and sisters. So what? What people can make out of that… well we can see, hear and feel it in different ways under different circumstances.

What DID Jesus say? It's a VERY good question! Why? Because he didn't write ONE word down. Because his chosen few apostles didn't write down ONE word. Why not?

I have always thought the likenesses of Jesus, wherever you may see them, were created by various artists. And, as I understand it, art is a creative process based on what the artist visualizes in his or her own mind. You can't argue with art. It is what it is.
Therefore, this thread strikes me as an effort to get even with "evil" white people who plundered, enslaved and killed blacks throughout history. I think it's time to let go of it.

Lou, you do know how to stir the pot! First, I am fairly confident that Jesus Christ was not blond and blue eyed. I agree with the basic premise of the article, that the image was portrayed as"white" in order to appeal to the largest constituency of Christianity. I can think of a number of "true believers" who would change their beliefs drastically if presented with indisputable evidence that Christ was black.
The article, while interesting, contains one giant error in stating that the color of black people becomes white in three generations and vice versa. If that is the case how do descendants of slaves, here for ten generations or more in some cases, remain black (provided they are not of mixed heritage). Egregious errors like that in what purports to be a scholarly piece destroy the credibility of the author and all the "facts" presented. To me, it is a non issue, but to many it would be huge.
