Jack is a country dog and he has his own large fenced yard so taking care of business is no problem. I have a pooper scooper and I toss it where no one walks ~~ this is the country !!! Lots of other critters do business everywhere!
Let's say I'm walking Jack around the TV neighborhood with my doggie baggies... pick up after Jack ... take it home and how/where/what do I do with it? Put in a pail in plastic bag for trash pickup ? Is that allowed? Keep the pail in the garage? How often is TV trash pickup? Do they pick up in front of homes?
Are most TV residents tolerant of dogs being walked and business being conducted ?
P. S. ~ SORRY ....... I posted this thread before I reviewed the topic and see it has been discussed before. I get the impression that this is a touchy topic and dogs are not entirely welcome to walk around and do what dogs do ~ in TV. Tell me I'm wrong. :22yikes:

Dogs are very welcome to walk around (leashed) and do what dogs do. What's not welcome is allowing the dog to use somebody else's yard or community properties like the mail stations, day after day, without picking it up.
In past threads some dog lovers have insisted their dog won't doo it in their own yard, or they see nothing wrong with using somebody else's yard, or they seem to fear great psychological damage to the dog if it's not allowed to doo it where it pleases.
The problem is in the attitude of owners who have no consideration for others.
And yes, it's to be picked up with your hand in a bag, taken home, and put in the trash. Trash pickup is twice a week in the morning (ours is Tues. and Fri.) at the end of the driveway.
Somebody made a good suggestion for keeping the doo bags in the garage till trash day: Get a Diaper Genie:

Yes, there are sidewalks along all main streets. Within neighborhoods you'd walk on the pavement, on your left side of the street and facing traffic.
Many people take their dog to run free on fenced acreage at a paid membership dog park, Doggie Do Run.
If your dog is used to running free in a fenced yard, you might consider a courtyard villa, with wall and board fence on three sides in back and side courtyard. Many dog owners choose these so their dog can roam free in its own yard. Also, many choose CYV's for the closeness and friendliness of neighbors.
Some with regular yards use invisible fence, but I think there probably are dangers of wildlife (like gators, not often) coming into that.

Thanks again ilovetv ! I know about the CYV and hope to rent one when my time comes (home sold). Sometimes it's just nice to take a walk with my best friend :D

Probably the ideal place would be to take your dog to one of the dog parks where they have containers to dispose of the doo bags but they can get pretty crowded!

Flush it down the toilet and dispose of the bag in the trash!

I am the one that mentioned the diaper genie, but another poster mentioned these:
FLUSH DOGGY Dog Poop Bags: Flushable Dog Waste Bags (http://www.flushdoggy.com/?gclid=CJW89fi13r0CFa_m7Aod6wYAvw)
This is what I use now. I just wish that they were a bit longer in size.

We have a plastic shoe box (with lid), that we ue for our doggie do-do (WalMart $.88), with a plastic grocery bag inside. Then we tie it up and put it in a larger bag for trash pickup. We keep it outside in the back until trash day.
Yes, unfortunately, we do not have many sidewalks within The Villages. To walk your pup on the hot street is unconscionable, particularly in the heat of the summer. When we walk our dogs, we walk them on the edge of the street line, but yes -- on grass (we are in the street). We do not let them wander on someone's lawn, however. There is no other choice -- again, unfortunately.

"walking" the dog does not necessarily only mean to accomplish the dog's business.
Some of us walk every day 3-4 miles for fitness conditioning of self and the dog...we walk on the multi modal paths...facing traffic...every morning.
And we are of the numerous residents who use our own property to do their business....using your neighbors property is gutsy and inconsiderate.
What I find works well is to confront the ones that do it ans ask them not to use our yard. What is funny is to watch them doing them still doing same thing....and bypassing our yard!!!!
See something say something! Works for many, many issues/problems.

Ignore much of the negativity towards dogs that you will read on this chat line, most of which is caused by irresponsible dog owners. When we moved here we had a lab, we walked our lab every day, twice a day, never once did we meet someone who was a dog hater. We did meet people who crossed to the other side to avoid the dog, so I suppose they were not comfortable around dogs. We also found that having a dog was a great way to meet new people, so I would have to say this is a dog friendly community. I am sure you and your dog will be welcome and enjoy living here. We kinda like to see people walking a dog, we find animal lovers are the nicest kind of people.

Flush it down the toilet and dispose of the bag in the trash!
That's what we did and it works great. Very easy to do.

Never, never throw the bag of poop into a catch basin (sewer grate for city folks) because it will eventually arrive intact in one of the storm relief ponds that are very common in the area, creating a nuisance for those who live nearby.

There are people that are offended by a dog pooping on their lawn and others who really don't care as long as you pick it up. But yes, it is a very touchy subject on this forum and people never seem to tire of preaching their viewpoint. At minimum, it must be picked up. We put some sort of contraption in the ground that we throw the poop in and it disintegrates of time with enzymes that break it down.

Now that the snowbirds are leaving it gets a lot easier, just find a vacant house.
