Black"mold" on landscape brick-work?

New to the Villages, having just purchased a pre-owned home in Oct 2013 and now noticing what seem to be a "black - mold" forming between landscape stones . Any ideas how to prevent? Clean / remove? Thanks for the help.

My landscaper just used a power washer and it all came off beautifully.

bleach kills mold dead. mild solution for the sake of plants...

I plan to power wash mine and thinking I may try using a clear acrylic spray to prevent future mold. What do ya think?

That mold will grow on anything.
Just power wash each spring with plain water.

Buy "Wet and Forget" at ACE Hardware. Works great with no effort at all. Mix with water and use a pump sprayer. It's around $40 for a gallon but mixes 5/1 with water. Won't harm plants and no need to scrub it off.

There is a product called JOMAX ( sold at Ace, Lowes, Home Depot, etc) which when mixed with water and a small amount of bleach, will kill mold spores, and help to remove existing mold when used before pressure washing. It leaves a residual mildewicide that works for about 6 months + or -.

I have found the best thing to use for mold is "Zep" commercial mold and mildew remover. You can purchase this at Home Depot in the cleaning Dept. It runs around $3.00 a bottle, just spray it on and forget it but don't get it on any plants. After that power wash the block walls and let it dry, then spray on a clear sealer made by "Behr" "The Wet Look" and give it a good coat and let it dry. This can be purchased at Home Depot also in there paint Dept. This will close alot of the pours in the cement and stop alot of the mold problem. It works well and you will only need to spot power wash once a year or so. You should reseal it every couple of years again after you power wash it.

50/50 bleach and water. Use a spray bottle or sprayer.

My guess is what you really have is algae.
Like Kathie suggested, pressure cleaning will remove it.
You can also try diluted bleach in a spray bottle or
even just a hard spray with your hose,
if you don't have a pressure washer.
