Someone told me that the suicide rate among air traffic controllers is extremely high, especially after an accident or periods of bad weather.

Oh boy, we woke up to -33 degrees this morning. I see TV is forecast for 86 degrees today, that's a 119 degree difference.

Thank Goodness we will be in TV two weeks from now.

Where is the temperature the very lowest today?

The morning weather from Albany N.Y. says that it was 3 degrees below zero overnight and is now 3 degrees above zero. We in Vermont are 1 degree above zero.

Yesterday, our doorbell rang; it was our son paying us a surprise visit from Colorado. He had flown into Philadelphia on business, attended his morning meeting and decided to drive up to Vermont for two days before heading back to Denver.

He kept saying "How cold it is here". Their temps fluctuate between cold and warm in the winter time.

He also noticed that his **knees and joints ached here in Vermont whereas in Colorado he is able to remain very active; encouraged us to "retire to Colorado" and went on to name several nice towns similar to ours, south of Boulder.....(which just had the big flood)....

**Old high school and college soccer injuries.....leading to adult onset arthritis possibility....many knee surgeries in his past.....from a young age.

The dry air does feel soothing.....but ???
I can't picture us retiring in Colorado.
However, food for thought as he said it would be nice for their girls, and the future children to come, to have their grandparents nearby. A compliment I guess.

Anyway, his flight back home out of Albany International Airport is at 5 p.m. today.......an hour ride over, plus time to check in, etc..........but .....we are now getting another snowstorm of 3 to 4 inches and the weathermen say due to the extreme cold it will all stick and cause a commuter's nightmare later today.....

He will have to check to see if his flight back home is delayed or not and take extra time to drive the one hour to the airport.

Anyway, he was a very nice pre Christmas "surprise". After we went to sleep, he had presentations to work on.....had showed us his new windows 8.1 computer which was driving him crazy as he was used to blindly using the windows 7.

I showed him two books I had purchased for his Dad, Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 for Seniors (both in the Dummy Series) to go with my hubby's new yet unopened HP Windows 8.1 computer with all the bells and whistles... which I got him for Christmas........anyway, since my husband brings in the boxes now that he's retired, he already had an inkling that he was getting something from HP which came in two boxes...the laptop and the photosmart wireless printer.

So much for surprises.......but our son was the biggest surprise.........although I had a "feeling"....call it women's intuition. Even a 41 year old son (our baby) is a big surprise to us old folks.

He had called his older sister to see if she could drive down, but she had to teach school, plus had just been down for the long Thanksgiving weekend with her family.

I hinted that perhaps he could move to Florida , rather than us move to Colorado; his wife is hoping to buy a horse farm , such as she was raised on.......I mentioned Ocala area above The Villages, but he said the "humidity" would not be good for his knees.......compared to the very dry Colorado air. Even Vermont is considered a "humid state"...and it seems to be always humid lately, with a falling barometer.

But, he gave me some towns in Colorado to check on Trulia.

Last sunday My brother in Southern MN was Ice Fishing on 13" of ice! Not to shabby for FALL weather!

It's not too bad, really!. With no wind and no humidity it is ok for short exposure.

I just got back from the stores, the temperature is now -30 and there are loads of people shopping, obviously the cold doesn't deter hardy northerners.

I even saw 2 ice-shacks on the ice today that weren't there yesterday, so people are out fishing, albeit in the comfort of a heated enclosure.

I am glad to hear there are some hardy people left in this world

Justy looked out my window - here in the villages - looks like people are going ice fishing - at least they are dressed like it - wool hats and gloves -
