I just noticed that my charger is on but it is not charging the battery pack.

I last used the cart last Wednesday and the charge was full and the cart ran fine.

Just noticed now that the red light on the charger is lit but apparently it
has not charged the batteries. The green light showing that it is charging
does not come on and, frankly, I don't know if it went on when I last plugged
it in almost a week ago.

I turned the key to the cart on and nothing happens....no lights, no light
showing the amount of battery charge. So, I presume the batteries have
no charge in them at all.

Its a 2009 Star cart and the batteries, 48v, are one year old.

Would appreciate any suggestions as to what to do first? Bring the charger
someplace and have it checked?

Call someone? Who?

Cant respond to any suggestions/questions until late tonight.

I really had not used the cart much at all since early November but I did
use it 4 or 5 times during the week leading up to last Wednesday and
everything seemed to be fine.

Thanks for any help.

I have a 2010 star 48 volt.

When you said you turned the key nothing happens, it won't, with the charger plugged in, there is a cutoff switch to the key (logic) power. So, if you had the charger plugged in, remove the plug and check the state of charge meter. Dead? if so, the charger will not charge a totally dead battery. you have to get the battery pack up to a certain minimum voltage level. You can jump your batteries with another 48 volt cart with your charger plugged into your cart. As soon as your charger "sees" the higher voltage from the good batteries it will turn on and you can remove the jumpers from the donor cart. If your batteries are really low you will get a big spark when you connect the second lead of your jumpers, so be committed when you connect it, don't pussy foot around. You can also reduce the spark by putting a light bulb in series with one of the jumper leads. If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't try this by yourself, get someone who knows what they're doing to help you.

Thanks....guess I will be calling in the experts.

First thing I would do is check the voltage of the batteries individually and the pack. I "believe" my 48 volt Club Car must have 36 or 38 volts for the charger to come on.

If they are indeed dead, this video may help if you are up for it. STILL WOULD HAVE TO ANSWER WHY THEY ARE DEAD.

Charging Dead Golf Cart Batteries - YouTube

If they are not dead, i.e., they have 44 volts, you need further isolation.

It would be great if you could find a compatible charger to test. If another charger starts charging then issue in your charger.

If voltage ok and other charger also does not work then need to isolate in the carts charge circuit. I barely speak Club Car, so I cannot help, no hablo Star Car...

Good luck!

Thank you very much for your suggestion.

I think I may have solved the problem. The charger was on
the garage floor. I just now put it up on a stool and plugged
it in and it is indicating that it is charging.

I guess the charger shouldn't rest on the floor. Probably most everyone knows that but me but I guess I just learned it.

I can think of no reason sitting on floor would matter.

I would however be suspicious of a loose connection if by moving the charger things got better. I would jiggle some wires and move again to see if I could reproduce issue before completely trusting it.

My charger is on the floor. You may have just failed to make the connection to the battery with your charger plug.

I have just moved to a different house and that is why the charger has been
moved to a different position relative to the cart and the plug-in.
I used to plug it in from the right side but now the charger is on the
left side and I have to bring the plug to the cart in from the left side.

So, the cords are "bent" in a different direction from how they used to be.
I actually unplugged and plugged in the cart plug several times last night thinking perhaps I had not made the connection to the battery.

And I made sure the plug was totally pushed in to the wall plug.

Its still charging now.
