2 weeks ago I had to have Snapper my Welsh Corgi of 14 years put to sleep. His cancer had spread throughout his body. I held him and looked into his eyes as he went to sleep. Although it was the hardest thing I've ever experienced, I'm glad I was there for him.
The house is quiet and I miss him so much. I know I will be okay after awhile, but I need to cry alot and grieve alot.

I'm so sorry. There's just nothing to say that will take the pain away. In time maybe you will remember mostly the good memories.

Laura, I'm so sorry my friend. Very sad that Snapper didn't last longer after his surgery. I thought something was wrong because you were very silent on f/b lately. My deepest sympathy because I know what you are going through. I've held many of my pups while they breathed their last breaths. Please know that my heart is with you. Not every one can do this, but I always get another dog as soon as I can because it changes the hurt to excitement with a new puppy. Good luck Laura and let me know if I can do anything for you.

I had the same experience a few yeras back with my 14 year old bull mastiff mix. While it was a terrible day, I am forever grateful I was there with her at the end. That means so much. Very sorry for your loss.

Kathie, you and I are on the same page with getting another pet soon. It surely helped me get over the loss of our first golden when we got our second one, who happened to be born the weekend the first one died. So it was 8 weeks between dogs, and those were the hardest 8 weeks ever. I kept Kleenex in business. I said to my husband, I can't stop crying. I have to go get another dog. He was of the opposite train of thought: get over this one first. I'm so glad he caved on that one.

And there are those sweet dogs that jsling has found and is fostering--one small female and a larger male.

Laura, please accept my sympathy and a hug (). I know what you are going through. I've held many of my dogs in my arms and said goodbye, while they breathed their last breaths. It's very hard to do, but unfortunately the pain of saying goodbye comes with all the joy they bring.

As Kathie said, not every one can do this, but I've learned that getting another dog helps to ease the pain. Not as a replacement, no dog can be replaced, they always have a special place in the corner of your heart. But the excitement of getting another dog helps .... just having a "shadow" to welcome you home and follow you around. The last dog we adopted was a rescue, and we felt good about giving lollipop a home, as she had four homes in three years. She is an awesome dog, we're both nuts about her.

I never saw my son so upset that he called me crying and informing me that Bugsy had died. It is like losing a child, as they are your very best friend.
So loving and just wanting, to be at one's side.

I wish their were a set of words that would bring you comfort, but all I can say, I am so sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss.
I find it helps to watch / listen " Somewhere over the rainbow "
and have a good cry. This link has Judy Garland and Toto.

This makes me so sad.. My condolences to you and I today I will not yell at my puppy for tearing up the Christmas decorations - Dogs are part of our family and it is so hard when we have to say goodbye to them.

makes all of us who had to do it remember those past dogs with fondness. When you are ready, I hope you will consider adopting a rescue dog....there are so many that would welcome a good home. That's how we got our current little rascal....

I'm so sorry. I'm in your boat -- just put down my Gabby, a really sweet kitty who was my clown. So, I understand your pain and sense of loss. Things just don't seem right at home without your beloved baby. When you're ready get a new pet. It won't replace Snapper but it will find a new place in your heart. Hugs.
