Actually I meant places where people can get up with their guitar and/or sing in front a group of people in a bar or some venue. Guess that would be karaoke without the machine. :)

MCcall's Tavern in Spanish Springs has that type of thing for Blues players. I think they do it on Thursday nights. I haven't heard about other types of music, but it seems there would be places that do it. There are music clubs in The Villages at the rec center where you can play in a group with others and sing. Hope this helps.
Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale has open mic on Thursday evenings.

There are a few, but they are mostly Karaoke.
McCall's does have a Blues open mic on Tuesdays and the Opry does it every Thursday as well. Most places down here don't want to pay musicians so they cut corners with a lot of canned music. The squares have some live music, but often their "live music" consists of a DJ or a singer with canned tracks. The music scene down here is pretty awful unless you're into Karaoke.
There are some good clubs where you can show up and play. I am the founder of the Beatlemaniacs of the Villages. We play live Beatles music at the O'Dell Rec Center every Friday morning and everyone is welcome to join us. If you have a song that you'd like to do on your own, you'd be more than welcome or, if you'd like us to back you up you can have that as well.
The meetings start at 10:00 with a discussion about Beatles history. We usually show a video for about a half hour and then play music for an hour or so. If you're going to bring an amp, please get there early to set up. sometimes we do a very quick sound check before the meeting starts.
There is also an advanced acoustic guitar club that meets on Tuesday mornings, 9:00 at Churchill. Thursday mornings at Paradise a basic acoustic club meets at 10:00. They do have a few electrics plugged in for solos.
Check out the rec newspaper for many other clubs.

Don't forget;
The Villages Philharmonic
The Villages Concert Band
The Village Voices
and there are several other instrumental and vocal groups that are so well trained AND I cannot think of their names. Someone help me.

Thanks for the info Dr. WOB. My son Max may show up on Friday morning. He is going crazy here with no musicians in the house. All he has with him is an acoustic but that works.

There are none that I know of. You have to travel to Clermont, Ocala or Belleview to find open mic nights worth any thing. Plenty in Ocala. I play at two different ones, one on Tuesday nights at Charlie Horse and one on Thursday night at Mojo's in Belleview. You have to play your own instrument so I hope that is what you are talking about because if you want Karioke that crap is all over the place.

Mystic Ice Cream on 466A in Fruitland Park on Friday nights.
Mystic Ice Cream is strictly karaoke. Try City Fire @ Brownwood on Monday nights for blues.
