Do you think there is cyberbullying on TOTV?
If you do not, there is no reason to read on or respond.
But if you do, what forms does cyberbullying on TOTV take?
Against other TOTV posters?
Against others in general?
Is it possible to disagree with a message without shooting the messenger, or do some posters deserve chastising, i.e. to be called-out?
Are there any topics that pass moderator muster that should be banned or roundly disagreed with by TOTV posters as being totally inappropriate?
Is hijacking a thread a form of cyberbullying?
If there is cyberbullying, do you think the people doing the bulling recognize it, and is it overt/explicit or covert/subtle? Mean spirited?
Does tone effect the message? What is the proper decorum?
Does introspection and conversation on cyberbullying lead anywhere?
What is TOTV’s responsibility?
Your opinion please.

Agree! Don't think you would've questioned it if it weren't there and you didn't get "that feeling". Let's see who responds.

I think there is, in addition to some healthy differences of opinion, a fair amount of "passive - aggressive" behavior.
I think there is cyber bullying on TOTV.
I think there is, and always will be, bullying in life.
Life is about dealing with all types of people including bullies and trying to make the best of it.
My avatar protects me.
At least I'd like to think so!

I agree. This site doesn't seem to be as friendly or helpful as it was just 4 years ago when I was looking for answers. When someone asks a question, especially when they are new or interested in moving here they seem to be the subject of a lot of ridicule.

I answer no!
I do see many times differences of opinion and belief when espoused are too often mis-interpreted.
I see disagreement too often viewed as a negative encounter.
"Bullying", in my opinion is one of the many current day labels that in application are a function of the speaker/listeners background, beliefs or opinions.
I also see a behavior of some that we all know would not be the same in a face to face encounter.
I opened with a no and close with......no!

Sometimes, yes; but I do believe true bullying is very rare here. More often, I think it is bad wording or a poor attempt at humor.
I don't consider hijacking to be a form of bullying. I'm not particularly fond of it, particularly if the original question really hasn't been answered but I do understand how easy it is to go on a tangent, whether talking in real life or "talking" on a forum.
As to the admins/moderators, I think overall they do a good job but I hate the anonymity of who is a moderator. To me, it is a form of cowardice and frequently leads to bullying by moderators in the form of removing posts of folks they don't like, etc. I've belonged to other forums, previously owned my own and have been a moderator on several. None ever had mods be anonymous. Everyone always knew who was moderator for which forum.

It just reminds me of the old high school days whereby immature girls , unhappy with their own lives, picked on the most pickable (usually the nicest and kindest of the bunch).
Perhaps most of the problems that such people have is with themselves.
Perhaps they think they are truly being humorous. NOT.
They walk around with a huge chip on their shoulders and the only sense of empowerment they have is seeing that they can actually affect others. Since there is no love or compassion "within" to affect others in a positive way, they hurt and destroy and take if they can.** A form of validation for their own inner being, thinking they won't be ignored. Sometimes I picture them having one too many "nightcaps" when these "hurts" are blurted out.
**No one can take another's self esteem or inner truth; it's not that easy. Just don't allow it.
That said, it has also crossed my mind that these bullies latch on to what they perceive to be a power figure or more popular immature "girl"........for whatever reason that might be.....and thereby form a clique. In inner cities, it might be called a "gang". They tend to gang up on what they perceive to be the weakest.
At our ripe old age in life, we've seen it all and take it from whence it comes, with a grain of salt. But truly immature for posters on TOTV who enjoy misinterpreting and taking things out of context, without truly comprehending what a poster is attempting to relay.
Words are very powerful tools which can be miscontrued easily.........but those who are sensitive do get the gist of the "dig" or "slight" as it is intended.
Joshing, kidding and teasing in a lighthearted manner are not bullying.......they are a form of affection......but there is a fine line between hurting someone's feelings and goodhearted teasing.....knowing the person has a good sense of humor and might enjoy the banter back and forth.
People our age do know the difference........or should.
Immaturity is indeed out there in the world, even among retirees, as I can easily see. There lies the reason for bullying. They feel empowered and part of a larger group. However, they are truly perceived otherwise, if only they knew.

If there is cyberbullying, do you think the people doing the bulling recognize it, and is it overt/explicit or covert/subtle? Mean spirited? 100%yes. based on their opinion and not on fact.
Does tone effect the message? What is the proper decorum?
Does introspection and conversation on cyberbullying lead anywhere?
What is TOTV’s responsibility? They handle it politely, but firmly.

Yes. BUT MOSTLY by anonymous people and by that I mean those who have never or will never meet other members of TOTV face to face at anytime, even if they do NOT reveal their real name.
There are many who post who have strong opinions and are reasonable in the presentations of them but many have not so hidden agendas against the majority's traditional views and politics. They will use any platform to be contrarian and will make fun of people who are generally happy here and who are annoyed by their general negativism. I believe that the politics of the developer is a a burr under the saddle with many of these folks.
If a person is a reasonable debater and is able to win a debate through logical presentation of facts and opinions, that is NOT bullying. That is winning an argument.
EVERYONE gets angry and frustrated sometimes. People are people. But ANONYMOUS people have absolutely no reputation to uphold or ruin.
Even those who are nice... are not above a jab now and then.
SO...OP. Why do you ask and how do you see yourself? Mais, je pense Monsieur Beaubein isn't anonymous. N'est pas? But you are NOT a villager?

TOTV moderators do a good job in closing threads, where statements are made referring directly to another poster, in an insulting manner.
Besides, "I don't let anybody rent space in my head". ::D
Some newer posters that have joined this forum, make derogatory statements and tend to go away, after a while. Almost all people, will recognize, they are trying to get a rise out of people, and ignore their posts.
This is a informative, fun site and filled with positive people. Negative people who tend to think, they are the only one's that have truth in them, disagree with other posters, and that forms a healthy discussion.
As long as we "agree to disagree respectfully" is the key to harmony.

That was a good question, OP. I have been perceived as bullying but my intention was to expose someone trying to use the community, and I was one of only three people who understood that there was a money grabbing scheme going on, while most were expressing sympathy and wanted to help.

Well said, Senior. It has always amazed me how some are totally discredited because they prefer to remain "anonymous" on an internet message board. After witnessing the bullying that goes on, there's no way in the world I'd give out my personal information here! I've met a few posters on this board and am selective about who I choose to share my information with privately. In my job, I see a lot of the consequences of giving out personal info in social media so I'm more cautious than most.
You pretty much hit the clique thing on the mark. Anyone with under 100 posts is immediately pounced on by either the "give me a link, give me proof...." crowd or the "why did you post this" self-anointed message board censors.
I've always wondered why so many people who profess to live in Disney for adults spend most of their time sitting inside on a computer looking for posts to pick apart.
