Hi Everyone, Looking forward to moving to the sun on Jan 22.
I have a question on USPS mail. I'm sure many of you have had to deal with this.
If I start changing my home address from the frozen north to the villages for various accounts, etc. and some mail is sent to my village address prior to the Jan 22 closing date, what happens to the mail? Does the USPS hold it? put it in the box (even though I can't get it until I pay the big $ at closing)? Return it to sender?
Thanks in advance & REALLY looking forward to coming.

Why not put a hold on the mail going to your Villages address? Do this from usps.com. Have the end date for the hold the day of your closing.

If I put it on hold, it would mean the villages recognizes my name/address in advance of the closing. That was my question. Doesn't really matter to me if it sits at the post office or in my villages mail box. Just don't want it shipped back or into a black hole because my name isn't offically on the address until jan 22.

try giving the main post office a call and ask them which dates to use.

The Villages doesn't deliver your mail, it's the post office you need to be concerned with. As njbchbum recommends, give the post office a call.

I'm wondering... why don't you just wait till your closing before changing addresses on anything? That's what we did, and it worked out fine. We left a permanent change of address with the PO in MI, and all mail was forwarded to FL. To our knowledge, we didn't lose anything.

Question about the Village mail boxes: Are the box numbers the same as your house street number or are you assigned a different number for the box? When doing a change of address do you just give them your street address?
Thanks

You are assigned a different number. We were able to get our key early and start having mail delivered before closing. Talk to your sales person, explain the situation and see what they can do.

Just give them the street address, the box # on the outside has no relation to you actual street address.
