How to Check out Reliability of Contractors/Painters/Etc.

We are about to sign two separate contracts for a bit of construction work plus painting of our Villa. I know that in a previous post someone mentioned a Consumer Protection Agency with telephone number where you can check out contractors to see if they've had complaints or lawsuits registered against them. That seems a prudent thing to do ... but unfortunately I can't find the telephone number. :dontknow:
If anyone out there knows of any "regulatory agency", I'd really appreciate your posting it. Thanks so much.

The best way to check out contractors is to call the Seniors vs. Crime agency. they can tell you if a company has had any complaints and whether they have been resolved favorably or not.
In Sumter and Lake Counties, call 352-753-2799 ext. 4253
In Marion County, call 352-753-7775
They are open Tues through Thurs, 10AM to 2PM.
