Have you seen the report on this accident yet?
This morning we had to be in Sumter Landing. I have NEVER seen driving like this in TV before. We were cut off by a gold/beige Mercury being driven by a woman at the roundabout entering Canal. She came so fast into the circle from the south on B.Vista that we knew she was not going to stop. We were already in the circle about to exit onto Canal when she literally cut in front of us.
After Lake Sumter, I stopped at Publix, Wedgwood Lane - what a zoo. I picked up what I wanted and went through the cash register. The cashier knows me and asked me how I was etc. etc., in a usual pleasant manner, and the woman behind me almost had a stroke, she was huffing and puffing over being kept waiting for two minutes .................. welcome to winter season in TV!

We went out for a bit today as well and could not believe the amount of people everywhere. Of course, we went to get gas at 10:30 at the only gas station near us and turned around and left without getting gas as it was too busy to navigate. The roads were also very busy so we got what we had to and got off the roads!! I hope this isn't how busy it's going to be for the rest of the winter and people were just out and about more than usual because they stayed home and indoors for the holidays. Everyone we encountered was pleasant.

It took almost an hour to get to Sam's club from Arnold Palmers.
In the 10 years we have been here I can honestly say I have never been in traffic as today. I stopped by the Verizon store....1 1/2 hour wait...no thanx.
Coming back Rolling Acres to 466 was solid from 441 to 466.
I know it is Friday but this was a record. And to make it worse the absolute totally inconsiderate, rude, cut you off, flip you off crowd was a record breaker.
It is no surprise....none at all there are so many accidents....they are all taking the right away instead of giving.
There is no way TV would come close to being FL friendliest home town.....not as long as they are behind the wheel. Gives TV a bad rap.

Listen up every single person.
Drive carefully, no matter if you are honked at or flipped the bird. After all this craziness dies down, I want to count every one of your noses. Drive as if everyone else is crazy, because most of them are.
Boy HOWDY. It is wild out there.

There are twice as many people here as when we first bought, and they haven't widened 466 or 27/441. There are twice as many cars on the same amount of pavement, including Morse and Buena Vista, so there are obviously going to be traffic problems. As they sell more homes, it will only get worse. Drive defensively.

I try my hardest to stay off 441/27 with everything I've got. It is crazy out there and as Gracie said "BE CAREFUL". There is nothing you need or any place you need to go that is worth risking your life for. And as my dear father use to say "Do as I say, not as I do"!

Totally agree. There are twice the number of cars on 441/27 now that Stonecresters have to use their cars to get to shopping, medical care etc, instead of their golf carts as they did previously.
If residents stuck to their own neighborhoods to shop, it would relieve the traffic on Morse Blvd north. How are ambulances rushing to TV hospital going to get through bumber to bumper two lane traffic? It could be a matter of life or death.

We also wondered if the freezing weather didn't cause people to drive their car rather than their golf cart, resulting in even more cars on the road. (We would be two of the wimps who took the car today!)

Sometime around 12:30 PM today, we were headed to Leesburg and came upon the 466A accident before any police or responders arrived.
It look like a bad one...a flipped over truck in street after a trail of parts in the street!
Figured some injury.
Turned around and went via Mirco Racetrack Road.

Oh now, janmcn! Do you honestly want us to believe that 441/27 traffic has increased because of Stonecresters? Where do you expect the historic area villages residents to stick to their neighborhoods to shop - just at la plaza grande? Ambulances can ride the shoulder of the roads with lights and sirens! You were joking and forgot a smilie - right?

Twice the number, just from residents of Stonecrest? My,my that seems a streatch.

My husband and I went out separately today and both nearly avoided an accident in the roundabout at St. Charles and BV due to people going three-quarters around in the outside lane. I've never seen so many cars on BV coming north from 466A to that roundabout. It was impossible to keep people next to you from entering the roundabout at the same time you did.

Wait until you get down here, if you're not here already, and see the number of cars pouring out of the Stonecrest gate and turning south. Avoid that portion of 441/27 at all cost.
Historic area residents have more shopping available that is either golf cart accessible or a short car drive than any other area of The Villages; Target, Sam's, Home Depot, Lowe's, Beall's, too many to mention, with no need to drive far on public roads. Other sections of The Villages should be so lucky.

Folks at Caroline gate are nearly trapped trying to get out on Morse with the increased traffic going north and south. I may never see Pooh again.

The supreme irony of the complaints about congestion and population is equally laughable and sad. Ever wonder why ol time Floridians pretty much loath developments?

So true. I went through the roundabout at LSL on Morse twice today and both times a vehicle entered the roundabout as I approached them. They stayed in the right lane (I was in the left lane.) But I couldn't know if they were going south or around the roundabout to go north, so it was very disconcerting.
In the first instance, the vehicle stayed in the right lane and went around the roundabout at Stillwater in the outside lane and into the Caroline gate. Fortunately, for me, that's where I was going so we avoided the dreaded T-bone.
But we've also noticed a decline in roundabout lane and entrance discipline over the last few weeks.
Also, crossing 441 at the lights at Griffin Road/Avenida Central today, I was in the left lane at the light with a car to my right. When the light turned green, the car to my right proceeded across 441 into the left lane cutting me off in order to turn left onto Rio Grande.
As Gracie said, drive carefully. It's getting to be the Wild West on the roads.

And a lot of the complainers are the same people that just yesterday were saying that The Villages should continue expanding ad infinitum. What roads do they think the new arrivals will use, or what hospital emergency room, or what stores will these new residents shop at, or where will they golf or dine?
Ever since the Florida legislature repealed the decades old Florida Growth Management law in 2011, developers have no responsibility for new roads, or schools, or sewage treatment plants.
Wait until next year when we are giving a big Villages welcome to another four thousand residents in Fruitland Park, welcoming them to the Colony Publix, the golf courses, the restaurants, the softball fields, etc etc.

To answer the question of the OP, no I have not heard anything about the accident on 466A.
To add my 2 cents worth regarding traffic... BLINKERS BLINKERS BLINKERS...and I wish vehicles would realize at some point that the golf cart lane is just that. Sounthern Trace is not a 4 lane highway!

I agree that traffic has become unbelievably congested this week. And it has grown and grown since we first moved here permanently 10 years ago.
But I, also, believe the traffic this week will settle down soon. Most of the snowbirds arrived in the last three days, and they have a lot of shopping and things to get for their homes here before they can settle in an just enjoy life. Here's hoping that by next week everyone will be engaged in a Village activity most of the days and not just traveling the by ways and highways.

janmcn - am not there until next weekend and will surely add to the traffic on 441/27...but i don't mind that because it is so wide, it has traffic lights, it has separate turn lanes in places, it has any store i might need, it has lots of restaurants and it does not have roundabouts! That's another reason we bought on the historic side! We have found that it is sometimes shorter to take 441/27 up to 42 and turn left to get to mulberry!!!!! Except for weekend yard sales - don't have much reason to go south of 466! :)

Yes, but it's a glaring negative just about anywhere in FL during the season. We spent three months in Bradenton Beach and once February hit it was impossible to get anywhere around the Tampa-St. Pete and Sarasota areas in the horrendous traffic.

yes, the traffic is bad in all the snowbird areas....my grandparents lived in Bradenton and we would go over to the beach, and the traffic was terrible on the road to the coast.
Just a fact of life. I am thrilled to have the winter residents here! 4 couples we know are here now...that means party:pepper2: party:pepper2: party:pepper2:

Most seasonal residents have returned for the winter. Rental activity will be at peak for the next two or three months. The Villages has morphed into a big city! Restaurants will be crowded, traffic will be congested, and tee times will be harder to book!
But I bet the majority of us once lived up north. :cold:
Isn't it fabulous that we're all in The Bubble enjoying the absence of snow and ice!:pepper2:

This thread makes me glad that I stayed home today, and avoided this accident.
I always drive defensively as I assume the other driver will do something unexpected and possibly cause an accident. I will always look out for them, as they usually look out for me when I make a mistake.
I noticed some drivers over react, before something becomes a crises type situation.
Hopefully, we can all share the road and be safe.

as most of the coastal areas in Florida - have you ever sat in the 1-2 hour traffic jams to go one mile to the grocery store or a restaurant on Longboat Key or Sarasota or Ft. Myers? I don't even know what the east coast is like during the season.
And have those from cities forgotten what rush hour is like during a snow or ice event? Ugh.
I personally think they've done a pretty good job expanding roadways here such as 466, 466A and now 44. At least we have options - everyone isn't feeding onto the same roadway for everything. Plus, I find that if I hit the stores when they open and get home by noon, traffic is really pretty light. Even the Publix at Colony Plaza has some non-peak hours (early morning and about 6 pm) so if traffic and crowds really bother you, avoid the peak times.

I completely agree. I still scratch my head at the "grow, baby, grow" attitude of some who somehow equate growth with positive attributes. What is it about perpetual growth that excites people? Yet, many of these same people complain about traffic and other negative aspects of congestion as if there is no correlation between growth and these things that degrade their quality of life. Color me perplexed.

I for one and completely confident that the omnipotent beings that designed, engineered and built the wonderful path / car intersection on Colony Blvd will make sure that all future growth and building is just as well thought out.
We were in Miami for the Orange Bowl and tried to drive over to Miami Beach. Two hours later we saw nothing of Miami Beach and finally were able to drive off the island. We happily returned to the peacefulness of driving in The Villages. It is all relative. Be safe.

I look at it a different way. I found this great place to live, and want to share it with everyone esle that wants to enjoy it as well, and live here. They can't have my house, so that means more growth. I personally don't see growth as a reduction in quality of life, rather more incentive for businesses, that we all want, to locate here as well.

So true!! I've lived in Key Biscayne and Hutchinson Island and during the high season traffic and people congestion is always a problem. Everyone wants a piece of our paradise.:a040: Relax and go with the flow. We are happy to live just off 466; I take my cart to go shopping, restaurants, and doctors with very little trouble and always find a parking space. I saw this as a discussion of driving practices, not quality of life. If road widening continues as construction does/has in the past as TV grows, the quality of life remains fine. The diverse quality of the motorists and their ability to understand roundabout rules remains in question.
We've been in far worse places for the winter in terms of traffic congestion and driving practices. Bradenton... Key West... Ft. Lauderdale...

OK, perhaps hour long drives from Palmer to Sams, 1 1/2 hour waits in the Verizon store and bumper-to-bumper traffic on Rolling Acres don't constitute a quality of life issue to you (but I wonder why it was brought up), but to most people it does.
The reason for the unfriendliness is the traffic congestion - that is almost always the root cause. People tend to have short tempers when they encounter traffic jams and while it may not be a negative quality of life issue to you, it certainly is for them. Take away the congestion and we are once again the Friendliest Hometown. Sadly, with the never-ending building, this looks like a permanent condition - at least for 4-5 months per year.

Really? It was the driving practices that caused traffic to back up and force an hour long drive to Sams? Likewise it was driving practices that caused an hour and a half wait at the Verizon store? People's driving practice caused the backup on Rolling Acres?
