Default Over bid on houses?

I am really getting frustrated trying to buy a home in The Villages! We have a good realtor we are working with and we go to open houses, but EVERY home we try to buy is either taking offers for 3-4 days or already sold. Why do they list a home at $310,000 and we offer $315,000 the realtor calls the owner and is told that they already have higher offer? What happened to the days of honesty and integrity when a full price offer was acceptable? I am losing interest in TV because of this and am disgusted with the bidding wars now taking place. I hope the economy tanks (which is on its way) and maybe these "premium properties" will tumble also.

This insanity you describe is also prevalent at lakefront properties up north. There is a lot of excess cash to spend. IMHO not a good time to buy big ticket items. Houses, cars, boats and other toys. Patience is a virtue.
