Default Yamaha Drive brakes

Frank,
My Yamaha drive has its brakes in the transaxle. I believe it operates with a couple of clutches bathed in transaxle fluid in the rear end.
A friend just bought a new 2015 Yamaha and it has brake shoes. Has Yamaha reverted to using shoes and why?

Yes that is correct they have gone to a totally new design in 2005 with conventional brake
shoes in the rear.
I will give you a few reasons. but not all. The first is that it stops better at the higher speeds we travel at in The Villages. Second the break shoe replacement is much less costly then warning out a fluid brake system nestled in the differential gear train.
Now the new system by YAMAHA allows factory high speed gears and not the tipical aftermarket type used in the past in The Villages. Thus Yahama should have less warranty issues with the new system.

Knit depends on the driver, speed and terrain.
We have exchanged differentials for brake issues with 6000 mi and as late as 11,000 mi.
