I would avoid Jenkins Honda, I purchased a extra maintenance package and was told it covered everything for 10 years however every time that I took it in for an oil change, they found something to add to my bill!!!!!!

JIMLUPO77 08-07-2020 09:00 AM

P.s. No matter where you go .... Make sure you check under the hood !!!!!!!!!!

We had a good buying experience with Bill Bryan Subaru. I had done my research and it was an easy process. The problem was learning how to operate all of the electronics on the car. They even had a class with refreshments for new buyers.

I liked George Nahas Chevrolet. (4135 SR-44E. Wildwood. Sales and service I rate excellent. My husband and I wanted a smaller second car. We purchased an Equinox. Very pleased with it and how we were treated even after the sale.

KathyW 08-07-2020 10:02 AM

Key Scales has superior service - and Fred Almonte for sales. I can also get you a "z plan pin" - no arguing on the price because it's set by Ford.

I'm selling a 2019 Buick Essence 4 dr SUV for a elderly sick couple who can't drive anymore. under 3,700 miles.$20,000. call me if you are interested. Dean 352-446-0355.

If we ever even drive by there, you can stop for a car wash.
They even baked cookies. We bought a Subaru and drove it home in a couple of hours. I have friends who drive over from Jacksonville, just to go to that dealership for service.

too funny. my daughter goes there for servicing, i went to see if the dogs were 'working' that day, :icon_wink:

PugMom 08-07-2020 10:15 AM

depending on the type of car you'd like, a previous poster mentioned dealerships along the 441 line. since we've been here, i've used plaza lincoln, specifically a gal named Christie in the service dept. she's the best-won't try to sell packages you don't need, & is very upfront re: repairs, estimates & time spent repairing the car. she also impressed me with her intimate knowledge of what the actual issues might be when faced with a mechanical issue.

taruffi57 08-07-2020 10:47 AM

We bought a near new Toyota Venza from Phillips on 441 Fruitland Park. Excellent transaction in every way.

Curtisbwp 08-07-2020 10:53 AM

My suggestion is to go to the dealer of the make of vehicle that you want.

NavyVet 08-07-2020 01:13 PM

Just bought my third new car from Phillips Buick GMC; it was the second one from Matt Wilcox. Good guy.
I prefer GM products because of OnStar. In the past, I have also purchased 1 vehicle at Key Scales Ford, outstanding service department. A few years ago, we experienced a shady warrantee issue at Plaza Cadillac. The "new" car they sold us was not new after all. We caught them in a lie when the 36 month warranty was activated several months before the date of sale and therefore ran out before our 3 year anniversary mark. Apparently, the car had been used in several promotional events, which was not disclosed to us.

arickis 08-07-2020 01:17 PM

Car dealerships

I have had excellent luck with Key Scales Ford in Leesburg. Honest people, no pressure, great deals. Stay away from Village Ford down 441. They are crooks, dishonest, and try to take advantage of you. They should be shut down.

I refused to get ripped off so I put buying a new car on the back burner since there was no rush. One day I went to Phillips Buick on 441 to look not buy. Phillips took thousands off sticker price and Offered such a FAIR price on my trade in ( which other dealers lowballed) I had no choice but to buy the car. Phillips has other brand car dealerships around the Villages. I would highly recommend Phillips based on my experience.

I second Phillips. I bought a Pacifica at Phillips Chrylser of Ocala. This is a relatively short drive from the villages. Bill Bryant in Leesberg would not deal at all but I did 95% of my negotiations via email and phone with the internet department and Marc (my salesperson) at Phillips of Ocala. It was a very easy transaction and when I finally went to the dealership we had one small hiccup which Marc immediately fixed and away we drove with the Pacifica at a great price.

Debboguch50 08-07-2020 04:37 PM

Check out buying a car thru Costco! They handle many different brands of cars!

Marshaw 08-07-2020 06:00 PM

Just look around, you can buy something a few years old with almost no miles

allsport 08-07-2020 06:15 PM

I have gotten 4 cars from Phillips Toyota and they have been great to deal with. The service department is excellent.

I'm glad to hear that you like the Palisades. I'm thinking about it myself. Central Florida Hyundai in Claremont is the best dealership I've ever dealt with before and after the sale. It's worth the ride. :bigbow:

USAA has an excellent car buying service. And, the same service will allow you to accurately value your used car trade in.

I recently purchased a new car, using my 2016 Honda as a trade. USAA saved me thousands off MSRP and I traded the Honda to the same dealer at the amount specified by USAA.

The downside? Since the deal is advertised to a number of dealerships, you might have to travel as far as Orlando. But, there is no hard sell, actually no "sell" at all.

You specify the options, the dealer bids on the sale, initial contact is done by email, then phone.

Easy-peasy.

Oh, and no additional nitrogen ($$$) in your tires, unless you insist :a040:

They also have links to car buying services. One thing I learned is that Florida has one of the highest dealer fees in the nation. A couple of years back there was a horror story on TOTV about how dishonestly a buyer was treated at Phillips Toyota. Because we planned to buy there, we looked into the story, found enough truth to it, and as a result bought elsewhere. From answers to the post, it sounded like other buyers also boycotted Phillips Toyota. Can’t remember the name of the OP, but I’m sure you could find it doing a TOTV search for “Beware Phillips Toyota” or something like that. Definitely worth taking into account. Maybe the old OP will post again?

Mtngirl 08-08-2020 06:06 AM

Just went through that a few months ago for the 2nd time around here. Each time the results were the same. Best thing is to decide exactly what you want, send dealers an email listing exactly what you want. If you have a trade in they'll ask for the info on that (VIN # etc.). We found the local Ocala/Leesburg dealers averaged $3-6,000 higher than many others outside of the area. The locals ones also tried to get us the buy something we really didn't want on a vehicle, or drop off something we really wanted (I.e. wanted AWD new 2020 Honda Touring but they only had a 2WD and tried to sell us on that). We found our vehicle in Jacksonville, no fuss no hassle and $6,100 less than local. The out of area dealers locate the exact vehicle you want....and trade off one of their vehicles with other dealers. We also found out that with the Ocala/Leesburg dealers.......they may have different names, but the actual ownership is all the same but they won't tell you that. Also, some of the add ons such as door edge trimming, upgraded interior floor maps etc were provided by dealer at no extra charge (the local dealers were charging). Once you purchase you can use local dealer for all service and warranty work. Yes, it's nice to support local businesses........but not when buying cars. Don't worry, the local business gets your money through service. Good luck and regardless where you buy, hope you get what makes you happy.

rstebbins 08-08-2020 06:44 AM

have had the opposite experience with phillips. ended up buying at sullivan in ocala. buick is having great deals currently. employee pricing and additional 5500 off. check out dealer web sites many list the price of the car after the discounts

gesivad 08-08-2020 07:11 AM

Not George Nahas

We have had good luck with Cecil Clark Chevrolet in Leesburg and Phillips Toyota in Leesburg. I will never buy from George Nahas Chevrolet. I took a brand new Corvette there for warranty work and they did over $1500 worth of damage to the car and sent it to Wayne’s Auto Body for repair who made it worst. I had to take it to another body shop to have it repaired. The Service manager at George Nahas told me that I was not his customer since I didn’t buy the car there. He was right, I will never be his customer.

EJOakley 08-08-2020 07:22 AM

I will tell you one place not to buy is Sullivan Cadillac in Ocala. Bait and switch and other underhanded techniques.

mbb11803 08-08-2020 07:26 AM

i shopped for a car 2 years ago near the villages. went to several differant dealers to lease and found there prices surprisingly high.
had to go to ocala to get reasonable lease prices. the price on my honda from dealer in Ocala was $185 per month lower for the same car.
I would travel a bit to buy a car

Right now due to Covid Bill Bryan is not doing hot dogs and popcorn but coffee, soda, water, hot chocolate is all still available at no charge.

Not true at all. I work for Bill Bryan we gave three locations and are not affiliated in any way with the other dealerships. Stop spreading falsehoods.

Lexus of Orlando. They sell good cars.

blueash 08-08-2020 08:40 AM

First go to several dealers to find what car you want. Then send an email to every dealer of that brand within 100 miles telling them exactly what you want, and what discounts you may qualify for such as military or student or repeat buyer. Ask the dealer to reply by email with the total final cost including any fees, taxes, registration etc. You then have an "out the door" final cost. Print out the email and take it to the closest dealer and ask if they are willing to match the lowest cost, or call and ask.

If they say "no" get up and leave. You may get chased into the parking lot when it is decided they will take the loss and have you as a happy customer.

As to selling your used car if that is in the plan, you'll get the most if you do it yourself but that is a nuisance. Next option is trade in when you buy the new car... if they don't make a profit on selling the new car, they will low-ball you on the trade to make the profit on that re-sale. A third option is to use the instant cash offer on kelly blue book, kbb.com Be completely honest with the condition of your car and you will get exactly what is offered. You can do this before going to your dealer to see how much less they are offering.

Or you can do it the easy way and use a dealer you like, trade your car there and pay their cost. It may mean a couple thousand dollars more but save all the time and trouble. YMMV

srockey 08-08-2020 08:41 AM

I have used Phillips on 442/27 in Fruitland Park. Good people, not high pressure. Ask for Fred.
Off lease only are wrecked cars fixed up...buyer beware. We went and checked, many have salvage titles.

Ross 08-08-2020 08:48 AM

Mullinax Ford. No dealer fee and no bs.

greenflash245 08-08-2020 08:52 AM

toyota. lots of choices and trouble free

butch69 08-08-2020 08:56 AM

I suggest you read the newspaper for ads. Lots of them.
That said, I bought a new Hyundai Elantra in late April and the deal was 72 month interest free. Good deal plus I like the car a lot. Jenkins Hyundai of Leesburg.

I totally agree! We always use USAA. Also, do your trade-in car separately, after you have agreed on a new car. Don't let the dealer try to add it on to your new car negotiation. Also, even though you may have to go to Orlando for the new car, you can get it serviced at one of the closer dealerships.

That's a good idea. Just be sure to get a mechanic to closely look it over first before you buy.

If you buy a car that is still under warranty, you may not need an inspection. The dealer will fix anything that is broken.

radarnet 08-08-2020 10:26 AM

They do not have a quick lane or body shop.
Just FYI. All services need an appt.
