:agree:

I think game 5 is always the most pivotal game. I expect a better performance from Wainwright, but on the other side of things, the more the Sox hitters see these pitchers, the better they should perform.

It will be interesting to see if the upms look in Lester's glove tonight for something other than rosin. :pepper2:

How about some strange endings to games this year. Three of the four games ended with bizarre plays.

The thing about this series is that every game has been pivotal. T
When the Sox won game 1 it gave them a huge advantage. It meant that they only had to win three game with three in Boston and three in St Louis. Then when they lost the second game, it meant that St Louis only had to win three games with three at home and without a DH. Then when the Cards won game three I thought it was pretty much all over unless the Sox could win game four. Now that they've won game four it's three game series with two games in Boston and Ortiz and Napoli in the lineup together.
The only downside for the Sox now is that their pitching rotation is a mess. I still cannot fathom what Farrell was thinking bringing in Lackey when Tazawa looked so good. Lackey hasn't pitched out of the bullpen for a long time and came very close to throwing the game away.

They have a great formula with Tazawa in the eighth and Uehara in the ninth. I see no reason why they couldn't get four or five our each from Tazawa and Uehara if necessary.
Can anyone explain why Lackey was brought in? Is he going to be able to start game 6 as a result of this and is he does, will his pitch count be limited?

Sox have been their own worst enemy. Throwing the ball around like a bunch of Little League ball players. I know---easy for me to say!

As best as I can tell, they decided to have Lackey NOT throw in his normal side session (3 innings or so) yesterday and save those tosses for the game in a much more intense 1 inning. Thus giving the bullpen a bit more of a rest. Yes I know most of them threw in the game anyway, but it did save them an inning extra that I do not think any of them had in them. Plus the big advantage is it kept Morales out of the game altogether.

I suspect Lackey will be fine for game 6 since yesterday was his day to throw on the side anyway. And don't be suprised if it goes to game 7 you will see some of Buchholtz too.

GO SOX!

Still slated to start game 6 which is on Wednesday. Yesterday would have been his normal bullpen day in-between starts. Generally a starter will pitch an inning or so in the bullpen (not in the game) in the middle of starts. I have seen this a time or two where the starter will pitch that inning in an actual game in the playoffs. Not unheard of.

Actually I don't think the starters are in shambles at all. Lester goes on normal rest tonight and the same with Lackey (Wed) and Peavy (Thurs). Bucholtz will be available for a few innings on Thurs.

The Cardinals have been doing the same thing. There have been a lot of bad defensive plays on both sides. The Cards also made a few bad base running decisions.

Awesome game tonight. Lester, Uehara (sp), Ortiz. Go Sox.

YES!!! I BELIEVE !!! :-):agree:

CFrance 10-29-2013 07:56 AM

Didn't Fenway celebrate its 100th birthday this year? How cool would that be to win the Series there.:pepper2:

BarryRX 10-29-2013 10:05 AM

I cannot remember anyone having a Series like Papi is having. You can probably guess how much it pains me (as a Yankee fan) to say this, but the Red Sox seem to have a "we will not be beaten" attitude about them. I like it!

Devo0007 10-29-2013 10:17 AM

Is there any place to watch the world series w/ red sox fans in the villages ?

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 10-30-2013 08:44 PM

Can someone explain to me the logic behind taking the 3-0 pitch but the 3-1 count is considered the hitter's count? I know that baseball people have all the odds figured out, but when are they going to get a better pitch to hit than on 3-0 and why does that suddenly change when they get another ball on them?

CFrance 10-30-2013 08:48 PM

I was looking for what the fans are singing occasionally (not Sweet Caroline) when I ran across this. Pretty funny.

Nope, it was last year. 1912-2012. But it was a very nice idea.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 10-30-2013 09:47 PM

I have all the respect in the world for John Farrell, but that was simply inexplicable. Lackey had given up a run on three hard hit balls and was struggling. Farrell goes out to the mound and lets Lackey talk him into not pulling him. He was lucking and he walked "his guy". I have only two words for that move...Grady Little.

Was wondering the same thing myself.

Winston: I have to agree with you---Sox lucky their lead wasn't seriously cut in half. Cardinals still look like "Dead Birds" to me.

CFrance 10-30-2013 11:02 PM

Well, good for Boston. You guys played well, deserved to win. Congrats. They were all great games. I loooooooove baseball.

I was so glad the Red Sox won the World Series over the Cardinals (yuck!). And to clinch at home for the first time since 1918. And who did the Red Sox beat in the 1918 World Series but the Chicago Cubs! Way to go Red Sox.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 10-31-2013 08:15 PM

I've been wearing my Red Sox home jersey (#9) every day since the start of the ALCS. Tomorrow will be the last day. My wife kept saying that I needed to wash it. She just doesn't understand.
Tomorrow will be that last day for it. Saturday, it goes to the cleaners.
I'm really glad I didn't wash it. Who knows what might have happened?

Great parody.

Here's a parody of the Mastercard commercials that involves passionate Red Sox fans (are there any other kind?).

Mikeod 03-09-2014 03:22 PM

My thanks to the Villages Red Sox Nation for the opportunity to see the trophies up close. My thanks to those who decided to keep it open beyond 3PM. I just got to the trophies at 3 and there were a lot of people behind me. I hope most of them got a chance to see and have a picture taken with them.

CFrance 03-09-2014 03:29 PM

What a great picture. Congrats to all the Sox fans.

Art Plant had a vision and what a vision for Red Sox Nation. Went to Ricciardi's for a nice lunch with several friends (all 9 from Boston area) and a great time was had by all.

:coolsmiley: Great picture!!!! I am heading to Worchester (pronounced Wusta) in early April for work. Looking forward to grabbing a train into the city to catch a game, playing the Rangers. I haven't been to Fenway for about 15 years. Got to take my boys to Wrigley last summer so really looking forward to getting back to another "real" ballpark :a040:. The Cincinnati Reds are my #1 team as such I couldn't have been rooting harder for the Sox. Had my Sox hat on every game!!!

Claudia Williams,is that the daughter of Ted Williams? He played his entire career as a left fielder for the Boston Red Sox. Finishing with a .344 batting average, 521 home runs, and a .482 ondashbase percentage, the highest of all time!

Chi-Town 02-15-2015 09:19 PM

He was the last to bat .400.

Someone has been checking out Wikipedia. You learned a lot since yesterday.

By the way, I was wrong when I said that I was at the game where he finished the season with a .406 batting average.

I was actually at the final game of his career where he hit a home run in his final at bat.

He hit .406 in 1941. My parents hadn't even met then.

Now go learn about the red seat. I've actually sat in it.

Taltarzac725 10-10-2018 09:08 AM

Congrats to the Boston Red Sox. Way to beat those Yankees!!:bigbow::mademyday:
