Just thought I would bring back some memorable names from the past for my fellow Red Sox fans. Don't know why but just got the impulse. Here goes:

Ted Williams
Jackie Jensen
Jimmy Pearsal
Pete Runnels
Frank Malzone
Carl Yastrezemski
Bill Monboquette
Sammy White

And I guess the list could go on and on and on.

I don't understand it BUT I CONGRATULATE them on their fanaticism and loyalty. Although their team didn't do it this year, they will continue to support them, and that is GREAT!!

My friend from Beantown sent me this email and spells it out real well. He writes:

"I am upset and depressed.
I mean, I really am.
It happened again!
Red Sox baseball season is over too soon.
We just lived through another Red Sox collapse...the worst ever.
Can never get used to this happening.
You may think..........................get over it, get a life.
Unless you are a member of "Red Sox Nation", you don't get it...you never
could.
Red Sox are a large part of our lives in Massachusetts/New England.
They are a huge topic of conversation (probably #1) in coffee shops, bars and
work all over.
To members of "The Nation", Red Sox baseball is our religion.
They drive us crazy all the time.
They are the love of our lives.
2004 proved that.
What do we do from here?
We move on.
It is almost like someone in your family dying.
We have to have our mourning period.
We will move on.

When it comes right down to it, though, we love our team no matter what. They
are a wonderful distraction from reality. We live for this team day-by-day and
it's always tantalizing watching them play no matter what happens. As a
lifelong member of Red Sox Nation, I do live and die with them.

If you don't get it, watch the movie "Fever Pitch".

We always have one of our least liked and much used statements..........

"WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR"

I will be there with hope, optimism and and enthusiasm."

Love those Red Sox!! But the better team won this year, TB Rays deserve a lot of credit, they kept on winning and we kept on losing, that's the bottomline. And Yes, "Wait until next year", all will be forgiven!! We love you guys. Stay tuned to 2012.

This letter is the essence of being a diehard fan, (short for fanatic).

Tough year to swallow. Thanks for posting this.

Default Fenway Park turns 100 years today.

I have not been to the Boston area since around 1967. Never got to see Fenway Park though.

One of the items on my "bucket list" is to see at least one game in each of the 30 MLB parks. I had the opportunity to visit Fenway in 2005. As Billy Cristal would say, it is "one of the cathedrals of baseball."

It was WELL WORTH the trip.

The opponent for this afternoon's game is the Hew York Yankees, who were the opponent 100 years ago, as the New York Highlanders.

We watched the event on MLB TV. Very moving for us old Sox fans to see so many of the greats of yesteryear all on the field at the same time. Ranked right up there with the iconic 1999 All-Star game at Fenway when Ted Williams came out at the end of the opening ceremonies and all the All Stars gathered around him at the mound.

Does this mean that Willard Scott will congratulate Fenway Park on The Today Show?

He might have done it already. I think I saw something on Today a couple of weeks ago, but I'm not sure.

Final score at today's 100th Anniversary party:

Yankees 6 Red Sox 2

WP Nova (3-0)

Yankees -- 5 HRs, inc ARod

How terribly rude and insensitive! They shouldn't be invited back for another 100 yrs.....
