I am old enough to remember him pitching for the Yankees.

During the early 50’S I use to be a sell stuff at Fenway Park and shine shoes outside park , I was shining whiteys shoes and when he reached into his pocket he didn’t have a dollar, so I said I’ll take a handshake , he shook my hand and gave me a $10 lot of money back then

RIP Whitey

When we were growing up it seemed like all the professional athletes had 'class'...today there's still players to admire, but there's also a lot of self-centered, pampered clowns playing pro sports...IMHO

I saw Whitey pitch several times and am still a big Yankees fan. Grew up in the Mantle-Maris era and went to Yankee games 3-4 times a year. Always on Old Timer's day and usually for Sunday doubleheaders.
