Since the conditions are so typically poor on the championship courses at this time of year, you would think they would lower the greens fees. No way. Certainly nothing I'd pay $64 for. Prime time rates for subpar conditions.

Well, it's prime time rates because it's prime time for golf. Conditions will improve with rain, they always do.

Since there is awareness of conditions and prices, an informed decision can be made.

Do the Executive Courses have irrigation systems? Hilltop and Silver Lake are very dry and hard.

Played Yankee Clipper on Tues 4/7 Greens in as good shape as I have seen in ten years. Tee boxs -ok , fairway reasonable in these drought conditions. Good work, whoever you are !!!

districts. They limit the amount of water that each course can use during the year. They also can reduce the water any time. |

Pitiful but so are many Championship courses. Some of Havana's tee boxes are nothing more than dirt. And the fairways are cut so low that it is like playing off of cart paths. TV's Director of Golf, David Williams, recently told me that they set the mower's at 5/8". Apparently someone doesn't know how to read a tape measure because I have never, ever seen any if our fairways above 1/4" and most of the time, lower than that.

All Championship courses have 18 holes open. They only show 9 holes because that is where you check in and pay green fees, as the clubhouse is also closed. They are using this time to aerate the closed 9 holes.

Below is a link to the website of the company that designed and built most of the golf courses in The Villages and also many in central Florida.
CEC Golf Design Group - Apopka, FL Also a link to the courses that they have designed and built. Completed Desgin Projects Perhaps many of you will find this interesting.

I've been in the Villages for 8 years and about 3 or 4 years ago the Championship Courses stopped overseeding the fairways in the winter with rye or bluegrass. The fairways were beautiful and the courses were a pleasure to play. Since then, they do not overseed and by this time of the season the Bermuda grass is devastated...hence the terrible conditions. I inquired at one of the country clubs and the Pro there said they don't overseed any more because they had to shut the courses down for a week so the rye grass could grow which is true. So what...stagger the overseeding and shut the courses down as necessary. At least then we would have some great conditions. I think the real reason they don't overseed is quite obvious...MONEY...as usual!
