Donna yes. I am still looking for the turn of the century curling irons. The ones they heated over hot coal.

Do you need anything else?

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

We subscribed for years to Mother Earth! I wonder if it's still being published? (I just checked and it is...only $10 for a yearly bi-monthly subscription.)

Being self sustaining is only a fantasy of how I could have lived a simpler less complicated life. Yet I know it would have been a lot of work - probably more than I would have liked.

With the rising energy costs and product/food recalls I think about what if...

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Bright we once looked at a house built using MOTHER EARTH. They left there copies of the magazine. I think they held the magazine with one hand and hammered things together with their other hand.

Needless to say the house was quite unique and interesting.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

I've had four house showings in the past four days. You'd think my house could stay pristine between showings, but not with two dogs and a shedding cat! The dogs roll in leaves, come inside and shake, and the white carpet isn't white any more. The dogs drink water and slobber over the kitchen floor .. more work to wash the floor again.
Fireboy comes home from work and sheds his fireboy duds and size 18 shoes in surprise locations. And so it goes. Anyone want three geriatic animals? I put them on freecycle, but no takers.

Suggestions for showing your house (from a former realtor):

- Your home should look like a model home, like no-one lives there.
- Put away your figurines, your lace doilies, your stuffed parrot, your
baseball hat collection, your family pictures. No-one but you wants
to see them.
- "Curb appeal" is important, make sure your entry way is inviting.
- Don't stuff junk in your closets, purchasers look there. Get rid of
it or store it in the garage.
- Open the drapes and turn on all the lights.
- Buy some fresh flowers for the inside of the house and hanging
baskets for your back deck.
- I can't emphasize fresh and clean enough.
- Go away during showings and take your animals and kids with you.
- If you must remain in the house, do not talk to the prospective
purchasers. You are paying an agent to do that job.
- Appeal to all senses ... have soft music playing, the air lightly
fragranced by cinnamon/clove spices simmering on the stove.
- Make sure your realtor has provided colour feature sheets for
purchasers to take with them with flattering pictures of the house
and details of all improvements and renovations. Attach a copy of
the survey if you have one.
- Make sure your realtor provides this listing information on an
internet site.
- The biggest mistake that owners make is overpricing their home.
- Don't overprice with the idea that "people can make offers". If your
house is overpriced, people won't look at it, so how can they
make offers? Then your home will become "stale" and people will
avoid it, thinking something is wrong with it.

Good luck all! It is somehow comforting to know that others are going through this same thing. But you have a light at the end of the tunnel .. TV!! Wish I could be there full time. I'm working on Sam Hass and Hu to adopt me.

I bet you were a wonderful Realtor, Bare. Really great advice, thanks.

Re: the adoption..Bare, Do you eat a lot? We're retired senior citizens on a fixed income. :-*

Just Susan 06-04-2008 04:54 PM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

You guys are fixed??? Isn't that only for domesticated animals?

HB sounds like a whole lot more fun working together. Too bad we all live so far apart.

My prayers are with you Bare. It won't be long for you. 4 in 4 that is awesome. Oh and Bare, you and Fireboy can eat your meals with us...we are not fixed.

samhass 06-04-2008 09:09 PM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Yes, Susan. I'm fixed for good. You're not????? ;D You start "birfin "any babies here in TV and you'll have to move to Spring Arbor.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Great post Bare. Our realtor did not tell us all of those things but a client of mine did. We did it all and sold in 3 mos. This stuff really works! The hardest part is living like it's a model home. We spent a lot of time in the garage. LOL :o

Barefoot 06-05-2008 09:01 PM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Sammy - You ask if I eat a lot? Have you seen my muffin top lately? (That's the bit at your belly button that is supposed to be indented, ha ha). My muffin top now looks like a pillow top mattress.

Oh Bare, I went to meet MikeG for the first time today. He is beautiful. The man should be in a painting..a young David. I know we all appreciate beauty at our ages. He's also kind and seems to have a gentle, good soul.

Barefoot 06-05-2008 10:16 PM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

HB - Sad, but true.

Sammy - I heard you were drooling at the information session today.
Lets get MikeG to post a picture of himself. Something especially Susan and Bright would enjoy.

Just Susan 06-05-2008 10:20 PM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Oh you are bad. Besides Bare it is not me, it is Bright. Me I just enjoy serving others needs. (sigh)

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Susan

I think Mike would like you serving "others" (hmmmmm) needs!

Come on Mike...put a pic up...for Sam (clearing my throat...not for me or Susan or Bare or anyone else...no, never ever...uh uh...nope)

You women are so bad. I'm married and old. Just as you admire a beautiful sunset or the double rainbow today over Lake Sumter, a fine painting, anything beautiful..that's what I'm talking about. He's not to be oogled like the Houston Fireman's Calendar, but appreciated like a work of fine art. Man is this thread going to tick off the admins. Talking about an advertiser this way.

HMM, a hot, nice, young man. Hey, Mikey .... are you married? Single? Separated? Divorced? Thinking about it? Sam wants to know.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

No Red, Sam does not want to know.

BTW, Next Tuesday the 11th, the Horse Park will have a booth in LSL. I'd love it if a group of you supporters would meet me at their office, pick up a tee shirt, then go to the square with me..wearing the t-shirt. Rhonda, are you in? It will be fun. Mr Samhass is going.
Chels, Beady, Red..are you in? Russ, will you fly down? Please PM me if you are up for this get together. Sam

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

I know you're happily married to a truly wonderful man. That doesn't mean you can't be a little curious and fantasy is good for the soul, eh?

samhass 06-06-2008 03:07 AM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

NO fantasy on this one Red. Thought my post explained that. My Granddaughter and Grandson are beautiful. I find beauty in so many people, places and things. I love beauty
and beautiful things...as most of us do.

Hyacinth Bucket 06-06-2008 03:22 AM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Sam :agree: :agree: there is so much beauty in this world. All we have to do is stop, listen, look and enjoy all these wonderful things.

Must admit nothing beats kids and grand kids, even if one of my grand kids is Pups.

One of the things I have learned to do is just sit and focus in one area. The more I look the more I see.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Thank you HB, for understanding what I was saying.

redwitch 06-06-2008 03:51 AM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Actually, I understood perfectly but it was much more fun to tease a little. To see a man who is beautiful and nice and intelligent is a rare gift. I'm glad you had a chance to be given this gift and recognize it for what it was.

chelsea24 06-06-2008 03:53 AM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Red, one can admire or appreciate the beauty of a person without drooling over them. I love beautiful people, beautiful scenery, beautiful animals. It doesn't mean I'm going to fantasize over it or them. When I see a beautiful horse, majestic, strong, running in the wind, I love to watch it -- Or a beautiful athlete play to perfection. When I see a beautiful young man or woman, I always comment on them. I have a girlfriend that hasn't allowed her husband to turn his head in a restaurant for 40 years! LOL God forbid a beautiful woman should walk by. I just think that's silly. If a person doesn't soak in the beauty in life, they're missing life.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

I just commented about MikeG's looks and it sort of got out of hand. For you nonbelievers, stop by his office (you can pretend you want a t-shirt) and tell me if I'm wrong. 8) You know, I should move this to the ladies chat area.

Donna 06-06-2008 03:27 PM

Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...id2/David2.jpg

David in his youth - universally considered beautifiul.

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...Kid2/David.jpg

David as a Boomer - still gotta love the guy.

Wow, my Boomer version of David was censored!!! I think it is AGE DISCRIMINATION! Like I said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I guess they didn't think the older David was "universally beautiful". Harumph!

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

VK, That was great!

Hyacinth Bucket 06-06-2008 05:00 PM

VK he definitely is a Boomer - you can tell by the sag.

Love the before and after. Where did you find him?
